The only two that I buy regularly out of state, because they are not available here, are Buffalo Trace, Weller 12, and Elmer T Lee.

I understand about the Weller 12 we don't get it in MI either.

The ETL is kinda odd that GA doesn't have that but no BT?

That seems very strange with Sazerac/BT's market muscle.

I asked Ken Weber the same thing a couple of years ago, Oscar. At that time, it was a mixture of not enough stock to go around, but primarily a problem with their distributor in Georgia. Something to the effect that once a distillery picks a distributor in Georgia, you're pretty much married for life. And, you can't get out of it unless the distributor wants to let you go, and they hardly ever do that. If there's a problem, they just ignore promotion and reduce placement of the brand at the retailer. It seems that in Georgia, the distributor appears to carry a lot of clout in the 3-tiered system. Ken said that Sazerac/BT was unwilling to enter into such an arrangement with the Flagship brand at that time, and maybe still is. Sooooo, I go to Tennessee.

Rereading my post, I have just confirmed that my math skills do indeed suck. As I listed at least 4 bourbons as the only 2 that I can't get in state.

JOSH!!!!!! See what I mean about that math stuff???!!!!

I wish I could find some of the bottom shelf BIB's like JTS Brown or Heaven Hill 6 year or EW. Those were the bottles I picked up while in KY.

While there are a few places to find the Wellers, there aren't any dusty Wellers around the Chicago area.

In NJ:

Weller 7 or 12, VOF, JTS Brown BIB, VOB (any), TW Samuels, HH 6yr, HH 6yr BIB, AAA 10 y/o, some of the KBDs

Can generally get the special bottlings (BTAC / Van Winkles / Parkers / et al), just tougher to find.

I was at the best store in this area where I live specifically to buy a bottle of the Pappy 15....He couldn't get it. He said he was "supposed to have it" but it never got to him. I don't know if there's some kind of "politics" in one store getting it when another can't but that was the implication and I have no reason to believe he was not being honest. I'll have to get it in Manhattan I guess where I'm assuming it's available.

It's horrible. :banghead: Sometimes when I do math, I feel like I just want to fly away in a balloon or nap in a box in the attic.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm in a bourbon wasteland up here (although Four Roses did recently show up), so almost anything could be on the list, but what sucks the most to me is not being able to get the affordable, standby type of bottles. I don't mind traveling to Mass for special stuff, but it bugs me that I can't get VOB or OWA (especially) or WLW12 or WTRye101 . . . most of these are bottles I would always have open if I could get 'em easily.

after reading all the kind comments here on straightbourbon.com about Willett, I've really had a "hankerin'" to try it. I'm having trouble getting it in Va.

Looking over the MI price list to see what all is not available I noticed that as of this month BT White Dog is. Hot Dog!

I have a tough time finding Van Winkle products here in CT. I saw one bottle of Lot B last spring, which I bought, and I haven't seen any other VW products.

Actually, I didn't find the white dog to be hot, but more corney. Corn Dog!

Let's see. What can't I get in PA. Almost anything that's good. PA is a virtual Bourbon desert. :hot:

Did you notice the price increase for the BYAC collection?

A local store owner told me they have been holding the BTAC at the warehouse for the NOV. 1 price increase, we should be able to find it in stores this week now that it has gone up another $5 per bottle.

Gotta love this place!!!

Yea, Liquor Control knows it moves fast therefore they can add $5 to the price. Plus, store owners will be adding to that now. I'd expect to see it at about $70+ tax/bottle in MI. I hope I can find the 2009 at the state minimum, if not I'll ask for it. We'll see.

Will - some stores advertise State min so you should be able to get it @$65.95 + tax. Total works out to $70. Don't know if I want to spend $210 for WLW, Stagg and Handy. Lot of other bourbon can get for kind of pocket change. (that's what I keep telling my wife, "its only pocket change honey")

TJ,

I've found a lot of stores that claim to have the state minimum price but charge more for the top shelf bourbons. I always ask for teh minimum price if I'm going to buy from them. I either get it or I don't buy.

I'll pay extra for something I really want if they don't claim to charge the minimum price.

That's just the way I roll.

What is the one or more current release bottles that you love but can't get in your area.

Mine are WT Rye, RHF, OWA 7/107 and Lot B

All of these I can special order but none of them can I just go to the store and pick up.

WT Rye just showed up in two of my local ABC stores so that's one down. I also want to add BIB to the list. Any and all, currently the only ones we can get in Va is OGD and EW.
