dean_martin
Any interesting holiday gift packs expected this year? For example, last year I picked up WTRB in a wooden box with 2 glasses. I'll be looking for something similar this year. A Four Roses gift pack would be nice.

I took out the "insert" that held the bottle and glasses in place and chucked it out. The box now houses a bottle of Rare Breed and a pewter-top Kentucky Spirit side by side. I'd like another one of those boxes for my RR10/101 and WT 12 Cheesey Gold Foil bottles.
cowdery
Award for the most outrageous goes to the Jaegermeister tap cooler, which is "free" with the purchase of 6 bottles of Jaeger. It's a nice plastic cooler with a place to insert two bottles of Jaeger, upside down, so they feed into a tap on the outside of the cooler. You know, because opening the bottle and pouring the stuff is so much work.

The heavy bottom is molded into four blunt feet. The one I bought the year before included really crappy barrel shaped glasses.
dean_martin
I almost forgot about last year's Jim Beam Small Batch minis gift pack. I picked up 4 of those - 2 for me and 2 for my brother. My state's ABC board releases its quarterly price list in Nov. which should have the gift sets they're expecting. They just use the word "set" in the price list description. Not very descriptive but it's a hint.
fishnbowljoe
I have the same set too. Got it about a year and a half ago. Last year I saw lots of different gifts sets from many different liquors, but the only bourbon set I saw was a WT 101 with a small glass and muddler. I was kind of disappointed. Hopefully there'll be others available this year. Joe

BBQ+Bourbon
I just scored a late 90s JD Frank Bobo gift set and a similar vintage Gentlemans Jack gift set. They will be part of my dad's christmas gift since he is a diehard JD guy. The price was less than the two bottles retail for today. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a 50s or 60s era bottle to add to his gift.
independant
In Va I have seen the WTRB wooden case along with a standard WT 101 with a flask and a cloth bad that the flask goes in. The EWSB 99 with the duel cigar/flask has made a return to the shelves again this year. Also Jack Daniels has a few out there. One box comes with a JD belt buckle. One comes with glasses. One come with a mixer and one comes with coasters. All these are with a JD 1 litter bottle.

funknik
I picked up Jim Beam Black 750 ML with 2 (rather small) rocks glasses for $18.99 at the PA state store on Thursday. My mother gave me a gift certificate that she won to the underdog grocery store in the city where I live. We never buy groceries there, so I considered buying some booze, but their selection of bourbon sucks as bad as their selection of food (the only thing I would buy is WT101). Strangely, though, they had some really nice holiday gift packs -- both the JBB (with the glasses) & JBW (with some dumb sign), Glenlivet (with some very nice looking glasses) & Bushmills White (also with some nice looking glasses). I have about $60 left on the gift card, but none of these bottles really strikes me -- I have only had JBB once in a bar & didn't like it as much as the White (I was a real noob, then, though -- have been thinking I may need to give it another chance although Beam products don't excite me much barring OGD114) & although I'm not a Scotch guy, Irish whiskey does appeal to me -- I haven't had the Bushmills White, but really like the Green & love the sherry-aged Black Bush . . . I didn't pick anything up this time, but I am tempted. What do you guys think?
cowdery
I was surprised in the Jewel to see a large floorstand display full of spirits gift packs. The odd thing was, it looked like a producer-supplied display, like a huge pre-pack actually, but it was stocked with gifts from assorted producers. Possibly it was done by a local distributor who has all of those brands.Jim Beam had one in the display, in keeping with its "Guy's Never Change" ad theme, in which the gift was a roll of duct tape. Maybe I'm wrong. I didn't look closely.

silverfish
I just scored a late 90s JD Frank Bobo gift set and a similar vintage Gentlemans Jack gift set. They will be part of my dad's christmas gift since he is a diehard JD guy. Do you have a photo (or can you find an image on-line) of the Bobo set? I'd be interested in seeing that one.My local store has a Gentleman set with a nice heavy glass cocktail shaker.
loose proton
...standard WT 101 with a flask ...by the way, these are nice flasks, not cheapies. I ran into a grey goose vodka golf bag one can put in entries to win.
OscarV
I picked up a WT 101 gift pack with the flask and bag it goes in also.On the bottom of the flask it says 145ml.I filled it with water and poured the contents into a measuring cup and it reached the 200ml line.Nice bonus. cowdery
The Beam gift pack doesn't contain duct tape. It contains a metal sign that repeats something about duct tape from one of the recent ads.An ad reprint, even on metal, is not a very good gift. Duct tape would have been better. Dr. François
I got a two-glass set from Old Forester Signature 100. The glasses are identical to the 4R square glasses from a few years back. Meh.

fishnbowljoe
Stopped at one local grocery store Saturday. Lot's of gift packs there. All of which have been mentioned. Almost bought the WTRB in the wooden box with two glasses, but I already have one. Besides, I knew we were going to another store Sunday. Bought my WTRB Sunday and saved $5.00, but alas no gift sets. I don't need any more glasses anyway. Joe
jburlowski
I'm like Joe... I've got plenty of glasses and don't really need more. Plus I'm not too keen on otherwise nice glassware bespoiled with a prominent distillery logo.
