McDouche
I had wrote this stuff off after an initial taste. After having a few more glasses, I've grown to like it. Not my favorite but pretty good. Funny how you like stuff you initially thought disappointing.

Not my favorite but pretty good. Funny how you like stuff you initially thought disappointing.I had that experience with Maker's Mark - first taste did not impress me. I don't know if changing glassware (Glencairn instead of rocks glass) made the difference, or whether just coming bzck to the bottle later did it. Not my favorite but pretty good. Funny how you like stuff you initially thought disappointing.Happens to me all the time with the "don't like it, like it" syndrome. In fact, I've experienced the "like it, don't like it, like it" more than a few times, so don't be surprised if this happens to you. Some days the juice hits your sweet spot and other days it doesn't, so try not to rush to judgement when things don't impress you right away. As for me, I love EC12 and it is a permanent fixture on my bar, but it's not for everyone and that's okay. Just keep sippin' and grinnin'!
BourbonJoe
Over the years I have found EC12 to be variable. One bottle was terrible while another was very good. This was all a couple of years ago. They may have straightened all this out but I still don't trust it enough to buy it.Joe :usflag:
Eggman
Howdy,Knob Creek failed to impress, but I've only had one bottle. Seeing as JBB is my pet Bourbon, I might give KC another try. Interesting post, thanks.EggmanPS: Then again, maybe I should broaden my outlook and sample EC 12 yr!

OscarV
I've gotten 2 bottles of EC12 over the last 6 months and both have been very good to excellent.I'm into a bottle of EC18 now and it is the best I've ever had.

JamesW
Exactly the same for me, two bottles over the last several months and both great. Now you guys are just playing with me :skep:Next I'll be out buying it and end up leaving it at some party..."Hey, who's EC12 is this?".... cowdery
I've never had a problem with EC12 but I rarely buy it. When I'm in the mood for some Heaven Hill juice, something else always wins. I've gotten close a few times.
Stones
I've been off it for a while as i too have wasted money on several tainted purchases, i might gamble another $45 over the xmas period given these recent reviews sound promising though... smokinjoe
I have never experienced any tainted bottle of EC12. The several that I have purchased have been very good. And, I will say that my last couple of bottles of EC18 have been magnificent.

But for an every day pour, EC12 has never failed me.
BourbonJoe
I have never experienced any tainted bottle of EC12. Maybe they're shipping the good stuff to the Big Chicken and to be truthful it has been several years but they were putting out some bad bottles back then. To this day I don't trust it enough to buy it.Joe :usflag:
LarryG
Is there any bourbon (currently available) more controversial than EC12?OGD BIB, maybe? My palate is not as well developed as many of the regulars here but the half-dozen or so bottles of EC12 I've bought over the last couple years have all seemed fine, and uniform. I like it, and quite a lot at that. Not necessarily on my short list of favorites but definitely in the second division.Larry

But, I'm my way to the Post Office in a few minutes, and I'm going to stop by Sherlock's on the way and pick me up a bottle. We'll see if my luck continues. funknik
Here I am again to beat the dead horse, but this process has been akin to falling out of love with someone . . . the flavor of the bourbon I once loved is still here in the bottle, but another darker element has arisen in the flavor profile: a sharp, musty, mildew gremlin that run rampant through the finish & that I can't ignore no matter how good the initial sip tastes. I opened a new bottle last night. Oh, well . . . this is the best bottle I've had of this in a few months and that same musty taste has been present in the last few bottles I've had -- perhaps this is what EC12 is designed to taste like now -- even though it didn't used to.:deadhorse:
Gillman
I'll have to try this again. Initially it had always struck me as having a eucalyptus-like aftertaste (greeny fresh wood), which seemed a house characteristic of HH at the time. For the last 5 years or so, I find this taste has disappeared from all HH bourbon - I don't know whether the move to another distillery (in late 1999 I believe) had something to do with it or some other factor explains it.I have never encountered mustiness in HH bourbons, in the recent period mentioned they have seemed exceptionally clean in fact, still with a light oily taste (a classic HH top-note in my view) but clean and natural-tasting.I will have to buy some EC 12 and see how it tastes at the present time.Gary
