sailor22
My friend is a builder and is finishing a large expensive historical house renovation. After telling him the stories of people finding bottles of Bourbon in walls of old houses he loved the idea and decided to leave something for someone to find later. We want to put a bottle or two of Bourbon in the wall of this house. Planning on boxing it/them so they don't get broken when the wall is eventually torn out . What Bourbon would you put in the wall?steve
spun_cookie
ORVW 23yr and Hirsch Red Wax Grab something that will not rot (screw cap) and covers a couple key areas. I recomend you get an older bottle of OWA 10/107 and EWSB 2000
StraightBoston
You want something to represent 2009: I suggest Red Stag.

jburlowski
OFBB 2009, FR Mariage 2009, or FR SB 2009.... something with the current year on it.
JamesW
I agree with the idea of safeguarding against rot and so a screwtop sounds like a good idea to me. In that case I'd put an ORVW 10/107 and either a Ritt BiB or OWA 7/107.

sailor22
After being frustrated by a lot of old bottles and decanters that had the cork take over the taste, I'm going with a screw top and probably dip it in wax to discourage evaporation. Maybe something that represents today that won't be around tomorrow. I fear that may leave Red Stag out, I've got the feeling that's going to be around for a long time. sailor22
Nice. OGB BiB and ORVW 10/107 or maybe BT are my top two choices at the moment. This brings up another question - new topic and should be anew thread - what are the best Bourbons with screw tops? troyce
hell, If I left a great bourbon in the wall, it would be some future, flavored vodka drinker that found it.
theDon
I agree it needs to have the date on the bottle. I don't think the OF B-Day bourbon would fit the between wall specifications as it's a super wide bottle. How about Wathen's? It's dated right? Or WTKS? It should fit within the walls. The bottle would have to be 14.5" wide not to fit between studs. Bottle thickness would be more of an issue. Standard studs are 3.5" wide. What does a standard bottle measure? I'd guess around 3". I of course was talking fitting the 3.5" front to back of wall space and an OF B-Day bourbon bottle is 5".
sailor22
I'm picturing the dry wall down at the bottom with a 3" semi circle bump out. Three generations of owners would be wondering what it was all about assuming it was a high tech green thingamajig in the wall....
