cowdery
I was in Binny's on Clark yesterday and although I was there for wine, I couldn't not visit the bourbon section. There, on the top shelf, were more Four Roses Single Barrel bottles than I've ever seen in one place except maybe at the distillery, all with with "OBSO" and "OBSV" etc. markings on the shelf talkers. I just got the biggest kick out of seeing that. Full blown bourbon geekdom in Lincoln Park!

T Comp
I was in Binny's on Clark yesterday and although I was there for wine, I couldn't not visit the bourbon section.A compulsive habit I have become quite familiar with as well. At my local Binny's store today, wine bottles in hand but then spending way too much time standing in the bourbon aisle and even counting how many OBSO's there are. sailor22
I would love to taste all the different recipes but I just cant see buying a 750 of each. I wish 4R or a retailer would release all the iterations in 350's or 200's so we could sample everything without ponying up for all those 750's.Maybe a package of 4 200's each a different recipe. Packaged as a tasting flight.

ratcheer
OBSO / OBSVI must be the only person here who does not know what these terms stand for. Please enlighten me.Tim
Ruby K
That's not a bad idea a set of 200 ml all 10 recipes of FRSB in one package be about $150. Be even better if they were all barrel proof but that's just wishful thinking. This would make a great holiday gift package. Jim are your bean counters listening? sailor22
Just take a trip up here to the Big Windy. All 7 bottles are open, and ready to be sampled at the South Loop location. Chuck may even join you for a Corn Beef at Manny's. GREAT IDEA ---- butcept for the cost of air fare I could get all the 750's and a few more. :skep: I checked with Manny's and they can overnight me a Corned Beef artery buster so I'm good to go except for the samples. cowdery
OBSO / OBSVI must be the only person here who does not know what these terms stand for. Please enlighten me.TimGo to the Four Roses web site (here) and click on the "10 Recipes" tab. Four Roses makes 10 different bourbon recipes, by combining 5 different yeasts with 2 different mash bills. The four-letter codes designate the different combinations.I can't say for sure but I think they're the same proof as standard Single Barrel, which is 100. T Comp
I can't say for sure but I think they're the same proof as standard Single Barrel, which is 100.These are all barrel strength, which I guess justifies, a little bit, the $16 price increase from the standard single barrel. The OESK and OBSK have the highest abv at 60.6%. For those on a budget there are a precious few of the three handpicked Binny's single barrel bottlings, from last year, still floating around at the $38.99 price. The #3 yeast and mash bill bottling was/is really really good, in my humble opinion.
ACDetroit
Sipping on some of the OBSK right now...very nice! You would not know this is 120 proof. The spicy yeast is pronounced and the high rye is kickin! Me like!!!Tony

Old Lamplighter
Oscar, thanks for the PM info. If you look at the 4R site that Cowdery has linked in an above-post, it will provide some answers for you as you look at each recipe listed. The anniversary bourbons are listed under the some of them.

docbible
I picked it up in a few different spots but they are listed in the current issue of Bourbon Review I think. I got my issue last night and flipped through. I do not have it with me at work today but will check my notes against the article this evening and post if they are different. tim
dgonano
Four Roses site(Chuck's link) lists the recipes and the bottlings that contain them. Just click on the barrel head. The 2009 LE recipe IS listed on the bottle.Question for Joe. Your 7 recipe bottlings omit the OESQ. This just happens to be the the recipe selected for the 2009 LE. What was your reasoning? Lost Pollito
We had planned on getting all 10 in september. 2 of the recipes were not ready, or aged to specs, and the samples of another were not up to our specs. But have no fear, the missing three will eventually be taken. Hopefully very soon.
dgonano
Well, I reason the better barrels of OESQ were already used for 2009 LE. Slim pickens afterwards.
