fogfrog
OK Hey guys I went to McScrooge's in Knoxville Tn today and got some Wellers 12YO and antique... (the 12 is awesome omg... it is now MY BOURBON)... and I also got a single barrel 4Roses and a half gallon of Old Fitzgerald.... 80 proof. now the BIB was 38 and the 80 proof was like idk 19? double the price for 20% more proof idk... so I got it and it is ... ok its what I drink AFTER I drank the good stuff... nothing wrong with it but its not like the wellers which is like jelly beans u know.... Sure beats the Evan Williams as far as smoothness... curious if others are drinking the Old Fitz 80 as a 'drinking bourbon'. (as opposed to savoring). ggilbertva
Unless it's a dusty, I tend to buy higher proof which allows me to control the drinking proof. If it were me, I would have purchased the BIB. My palate finds current 80 proof bourbons to be uneventful. I mentioned dusty's which IMO carry more flavor (e.g. Early Times, Old Crow, Old Fitz). Nothing wrong with an 80 proof but my tastes run higher proof.
loose proton
Since Old Fitz topcis are popping up, thought I'd add this humorous note from Chuck, re: the name. Pardon if this has been posted before.see page 3: http://cowdery.home.netcom.com/read50.pdf
T Comp
Current Old Fitz Prime is mixing bourbonMaybe even for mixing with the other stuff in the garbage disposal. The current BIB can be pretty good, but the 86 proof Prime I recently purchased, was the worst juice I've had in the last 2 years. My wife said it even messed up her sweet potato casserole, over the holidays.
