I bought these two bottles

Can anybody tell me how old these are.

One has a white label and the other one is creamy/beige. Text on both bottles is the same.

According to Dave Z's post here: http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7539 ADC got out of the Whiskey business in 1980 so it can't be later than that. Judging by an ad for sale on ebay, they are probably from the 1970s.

The facility there is going to be reopened to make ethenol for fuel, and possibly for drinking too according to this article: http://www.ethanolmarket.com/PressReleaseMGPI112309

Well, there IS a line of thought that that's pretty much what they made when they were bottling it as Bourbon Supreme.:skep:

 Well, that one's going on the "dusties to avoid" list. thanks Tim!

Well, i opened one of them.

Big disappointment. Almost no taste, comes close to the referred ethanol.

The proof is still there but no flavour.

I think i blend it with a JB.

Bourbon Supreme is possibly the worst bourbon even bottled. Even the most reviled bourbons and blends available on the shelves currently are much, much better. I wouldn't even recommend blending with Jim Beam, as it would just make the Beam even less drinkable than it currently is.

Tn Bourbon already warned for this but i was just too curious.

I have an Old Quaker from that same era(?) which i like very much.

What you suggest i'll do with it, part from flushing through the sink.

Pekin is very close to Peoria and still has an active distillery, as does Peoria. Both make GNS for various purposes, including vodka.

It's interesting to see how Illinois Bourbon was marketed, in this case as American Straight Bourbon Whiskey, a redundancy since bourbon has to be American.

Tried it once more yesterdaynight but i don't even want to serve this to guests.I flushed the whole bottle through the sink. Maybe the rats have a party now.

By pure conicidence, a friend of mine happened to have a bottle of this open on Friday night and we sampled some. It really wasn't all that bad! It definitely benefitted from some time in the glass, but it wasn't harsh or unpleasant at all. I wouldn't go so far to say it was GOOD, but it surely was not entirely repugnant. I'd pick it over JBW in a heartbeat, for whatever that's worth. :

Would I buy any? Hell, no. But I was pleasantly surprised and underwhelmed at the same time. When your reaction is more complex than your bourbon; well, that counts for something, right? :grin

Cheers!

Isn't Skyy vodka distilled in Pekin? I know I read that somewhere before I even knew there was a distillery in Pekin, but I haven't been able to find that or any other confirmation.

Oooops. I got here too late. Sounds like perfect whiskey for a rebarreling experiment. No worries. The alcohol will cut back on anything floral growing in your sewer pipes for a little while.

Sometimes I use whiskey the same way I use wine. If I can't enjoy drinking it then I reduce it for a nice bourbon glaze. The glaze works well for meats as well as desserts. For wine, you can use it for cooking or make vinegar from it. Or, as you have discovered, use the non-drinkable stuff as a cleanser/disinfectant. If it's 100 proof, it also makes a good charcoal lighter for the BBQ.

If you follow these suggestions or come up with other ideas, you will never be arrested for alcohol abuse.

That's what I did with mine  It did a great job of conditioning a 2 gallon barrel that later held our Willett 4yo rebarrel. The Bourbon Supreme now makes a great concentrated cooking bourbon. Great for deglazing!

The MGPI distillery in Pekin is one of the GNS plants from which Skyy has purchased GNS. It's probably thought of as Skyy's distillery because one of those History Channel or Discovery Channel shows did something about Skyy and showed MGPI as the distillery.

Pekin is adjacent to Peoria and both had a lot of whiskey production pre-Prohibition. Peoria still has ADM's ethanol plant in what used to be Hiram Walker's Biggest Distillery in the World and Pekin still has MGPI. (The acronym stands for Midwest Grain Products Ingredients.)

MGPI closed down in February 2009, as the company consolidated its operations at its Kansas headquarters, but it reopened last month.

Here is some info about the company, previously posted on SB.com. Here is something recent from the Pekin Daily Times.

Back to Bourbon Supreme, the attached is from the Luxco website. It is the specifications for Bourbon Supreme. You'll note that although it says it is in the category of "Bourbon," several expressions are identified as blended whiskey.

Oscar, if you'd like some I might be able to have a member of my family grab a bottle and ship it to me.... Not sure why you'd want one, though.

Thanx 4 the offer but it would probably be best if I kept the legend in my mind.
