Folks in Australia would well know that the Aussie distributor of Wild Turkey has in Oz lost distribution of this brand. That company is Pernod - Ricard.

Wild Turkey will now be distributed by Campari.

So many would think Pernod - Ricard now "Bourbonless" but this is not the case at all. They also control Four Roses!

So if you're an Aussie on this forum, show your support and how much you would love to see Four Roses here!

And if you're in the US or elsewhere, please get on here and tell us how good the Four Roses range is and maybe, just maybe Pernod - Ricard will take notice and bring the range down under!!!

Pernod Ricard used OWN Wild Turkey they sold it to Campari. Pernod Ricard has nothing to do with Four Roses it is owned by Kirin a japanese company which makes me wonder why you don't get it.

According to the Pernod Ricard website, they entered (in 2002) a "Partnership agreement with Kirin for distribution of Four Roses (bourbon)."

It doesn't mention in which territories they control distribution, but a Four Roses link elsewhere on their site take you to the German Four Roses homepage.

Losing Wild Turkey is one hell of a big loss. Didn't WT sell 20% or 30% of their bourbon in Austrailia?

We sort of have Four Roses in Australia.... The export version of McKenna is made by Four Roses and is available in most Aussie retail stores. Then there's Bulleit....:skep:

I believe Australia, particularly Western Australia then South Australia are the

biggest markets outside the US for Bourbon

Great sense of humour there Cam.

I'll admit I haven't tried McKenna but the Bulliet has been garbage since it sropped from 90pf.

Cheers,

Morgan

Henry McKenna is a Heaven Hill brand for at least the last 5+ years. I don't understand why they'd have Four Roses making export McKenna for them unless this has something to do with Ye Olde Distillery Fire. Does anyone have any evidence (I'll settle for hearsay) to confirm or deny this?

The McKenna domestic (US) brand is owned by Heaven Hill, and the export brand rights are owned by Four Roses - hence two different distilleries making two very different products.

Hey Clayton, when I toured the Wild Turkey distillery last year I got to met and chat with Jimmy Russell. He said that Australia was their biggest export market. Heck even when the demand for WT was decreasing else where, the exports to OZ were increasing. Also He and his son have been vistors to Perth in the last few years.

Very jealous of meeting Jimmy Russell mate, lucky you. The sad part of the story is as usual we get basic "core" brands from the distillers. is it because that's enough to keep the majority of us happy? I think it is. When I spoke to our WT supplier he said they are not prepared to "risk" lines they cannot turnover

Where does Dan Murphy's allocation of 6000 cases (36,000 bottles) of Wild Turkey 14 y.o Tradition fit in I wonder???

Most stores should have got it this week @ $100 a bottle I believe.

At the prices I've heard that y'all are used to paying for your bourbon, that sounds like a bargain.

I like the way you think Clayton, and I imagine that Pernod aren't the only company that would love a great bourbon in their portfolio. The problem is with these guys...they are about to lose WT, which accounts for 30% of their sales. Obviously it is a world renowned brand that sells itself. Outside of the US, Europe and Japanese markets, I would suspect that not many average bourbon drinkers would know about Four Roses at all, which is a great shame.....as obviously such a brand would be a risk for them.

With 30% of their sales market gone, they have let go 30% of their staff. A good friend of mine was retrenched after 9.5 years with them.

Clayton, may I ask where you work?

Kind regards

Scott

Clayton,

They only made 30,000 bottles of Tradition. 16,000 were allocated to the US, the remaining 14k to Japan and AUS. I would hazard a guess that we got 7,000 bottles each. If it's $100 a bottle, I'm going to stock up big time! I just got some a few weeks ago and by the time I paid customs and freight charges they landed at AU$180.

Jimmy Russell was over here approximately 6 weeks ago for a very brief visit to meet to Campari staff. I have been told after they have taken over, Jimmy should be coming back for a longer stay and doing the regular industry nights he has previously done over here. Apparently Eddie will not be coming as he has to man the fort!

I am trying to organise a private tasting while he is in Brisbane, where we will taste a very large range of exclusive WT bottlings.

As far as the "core" brands are concerned, the reason they aren't going to bring the new Russell's Reserve out is because it is not WT branded at all, and not many people over here know who Jimmy Russell is. Damn shame as it would increase not only their portfolio but get more interest in premium brands; but like you already pointed out it's a risk for them.

Kentucky Spirit would be great in limited numbers, but I guess it would hurt US and Japanese availability with it's limited bottling times.

Also Clayton, your state isn't listed...where you at mate??

Now I'm going to show off......I just turned 30 and I was gifted 3 bottles for my birthday that collectively spent 30 years in american oak!

Cheers

Scott

Tym,

Trust me you do not want to pass!! Especially on the 2009 FR Mariage! Actually I think you may have tried that at my place....but yeah we need to do that. the last FR tasting was Yellow label, Single Barrel, Euro SB, Small Batch, FR 120th Anniversary, FR 40th Anniversary and FR platinum. We can now add mariage to that!
