Oops, my mistake. I picked up the double barrel.

Double Barrel is nice. I picked up a bottle at $14 off the regular price.

I'd love to find a whiskey that matched those tasting notes. At 80 proof.

It will be interesting to try this because you don't often find Canadian whisky finished in new oak. I'd like to see how much it resembles a bourbon. I did try Gibson's New Oak some time ago and it was quite good but subtle.

The tasting notes sounded interesting until anise was mentioned.. Still I would like to take a crack at it. I take it they don't char the barrels... I have the barrel select and it is pleasant but weak as far as 80 proofer Canadians go. I have a feeling Confederation Oak Reserve may be on the weak side also. I guess GTS has toughen up my palate making 80 proofers seem too watered down.

"An outstanding, very distinctive whisky!" with a rating of 95.

It's very good, not sure if the Canadian wood really makes a difference but it is distinctive and tasty without being a clone of U.S. straight whiskey. I didn't get any anise in it.

Is this available in Nor Cal? How much does it run?

I'm a big fan of this one. A few brief notes (sorry if they belong elsewhere—I'm still learning the site)...

Nose: dusty rye, vanilla, toasted pecans, roast corn on the cob, butter.

Palate: rye (somewhat drying), more toasted pecans, and maple syrup. Rye starts the finish, but fades to vanilla.

Really nice stuff. My favourite Canadian whisky right now.

I meant it as neutral—there just has this sort of "dry, brittle" feel to the rye. It may mean nothing to anyone but me, but "dusty" was the best way I had to describe the sensation.

"With only 16,800 bottles produced, distiller John Hall of Kittling Ridge

Distillery had originally intended Confederation Oak Reserve as a Canadian

exclusive. However, he finally acquiesced to persistent demand from his

American distributors to supply key retailers in the U.S. That’s a good

thing. Eligibility for the Malt Advocate Awards is limited to whiskies that

have been released in the U.S. during the past calendar year."

Not sure who the "key retailers" are but it is available (somewhere!) in

the USA.
