Enabler
Okay, working on a dinner coming up with some bourbon pairings. Going to do strawberries and shortcake for dessert, was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a "dessert" bourbon to go with it?

The chocolate tones are a perfect compliment to the strawberries.
Enabler
Thanks. I will look around and see if that is available in my area. I have a 2005 Birthday Bourbon. Would that work as well?

MGB
I once had an erotic experience involving strawberries that was spectacular. But since this is a "family" site, I dare not recount it here.
jburlowski
Slightly off topic, but try sprinkling some Sambuca and ground pepper over fresh strawberries... sounds a little bizarre but really quite good.
IronHead
Again, off topic but Balsamic vinegar and strawberries is a nice combination as well.As for Bourbon and strawberries....I got nothing. I would do something different. Creme Brulee, Grilled Peach shortcake (but peaches aren't quite in season yet), Chocolate-pecan praline cake, Soak some cherries in bourbon and make a cherry tart. You could try making a simple syrup and adding a little of whatever bourbon you will be serving to macerate your strawberries. I just worry about bourbon overpowering the strawberries. fishnbowljoe
I would say a wheated bourbon. MM, WSR or maybe even Lot B. Something sweeter/smoother with less of a bite. A rye or high rye bourbon might be too bitter and really offset the combination. Joe

ILLfarmboy
I have one of those ISI whip cream things, the ones that use a cartridge of N2O put the contents under pressure. It does such a good job "whipping" the cream, I wouldn't think thinning down heavy cream with a touch of bourbon, something sweet, would cause it to under-perform. Dust the strawberries with some bitter-sweet chocolate shavings and lay on the bourbon laced whipped cream and you are in business.

ErichPryde
What are the prep instructions? This looks great! I will start googling immediately.I think it's something along the lines of "mix all ingredients except strawberries until smooth. refrigerate. Cut strawberries into chunks (halves?) and pour sauce over the top."
Enabler
Found it on recipezar. You make whipped cream normally (with bourbon tonight instead of brandy or vanilla and brown sugar instead of white) then mix it with the sour cream. Pour over strawberries. Going to try it tonight with Elmer T. Lee instead of vanilla in the whipped cream and maybe birthday bourbon to go with it. I checked, I have the 2003 Birthday bourbon. We will see how it goes. Thank you all for the suggestions.
Enabler
Sorry, forgot to post the reply. The Strawberries Romanov (a la Madeleine) were excellent. Used the Elmer T. Lee instead of vanilla. Delicious, and easy to make. Will definitely do it again. The sour cream gives it a great tang that works with the strawberries. Where I will eat whipped cream by itself (shoudl not but I do) this is not so great by itself but perfect with the sweet berries (we have loads of Hmong that live around here and they grow amazing strawberries to sell locally).thank you very much for the suggestions. Chu'Wuti
Alternatively, mix a little of the bourbon with sour cream & a little brown sugar to serve with the strawberries . . . mmmmmmmmm
Jono
Maybe a bourbon syrup with vanilla ice cream would work...http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=522641This recipe goes with Bourbon CakeYield: 1 1/3 cupsIngredients1/2 cup butter or margarine1 cup sugar1/2 cup bourbonPreparationMelt butter with sugar in a small heavy saucepan; whisk in bourbon.
