bourbon-n00b
Just got this from Old Forester and thought it was worth passing on:If you liked the 2009 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, Master Distiller Chris Morris has something really special for you in 2010! This year's Birthday Bourbon will be a single day vintage selection consisting of 72 barrels that date from October 24, 1997. These select barrels matured together in the very middle of Warehouse K, on the 5th floor, in ricks 42, 43 and 45 surrounded by open space, allowing the barrels to breathe deep during maturation and develop a rich character full of fruit and spice notes. All this art and science delivers the following: Color- deep caramel brownAroma- rich hints of cedar, dark chocolate and tropical fruit underscored by caramel and butterscotch notesTaste - crisp cedar and nutty oak mingled with fig, berry and citrus charactersFinish- a long, crisp wood spice note ends with a touch of fruitSo reserve space on your shelf now! You'll receive an update from us in September to let you know when you can pick up your own bottle of 2010 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon! Cheers,Your friends at Old Forester

BourbonJoe
I have every one of these since 2002. I remember there was a 2002 on the table in Houston. It was just as great as I remember it. I look forward to the 2010.Joe :usflag:
CorvallisCracker
The 2007 was, believe it or not, one of my two all-time-favorite rye recipe bourbons, the other being Hirsch 16 BW. I'd love to find another bottle of it (the OFBB)(well, the Hirsch too).I may not get a chance to try the 2010. I know of only one store in Oregon that carries OFBB (Big Y in Eugene), and they still have the 2009 sitting on the shelves. I don't think they're going to order any more OFBB until those are gone. Virus_Of_Life
I just wish they would get back to the original glass it was in. I know that sounds weird coming from someone who cursed the shape of the bottle, but now having two similar yet different odd bottles is worse. Either way I always look forward to this release now. Vosgar
I'll be counting on a certain someone from my favorite liquor store in the South Loop to let me know when this comes in. Love the OFBB!Gary
SMOWK
I have only tried the 2009, but I have 4 bottles of the 2008. I didn't care for the 2009, but a friend of mine who didn't either, really liked the 2008. I like saving the bottles that say Birthday on them, such as ETL90th, for someone's birthday. So far, I haven't made it to the 2008s, but I think that will change. Somebody please have a birthday already...

It's great for decanting other whiskies into- I have a 2007 BB bottle that currently holds a very old beam BIB that needed some air, and maybe that huge headspace let it breathe a bit more. Or perhaps not. either way, It's a unique look. The 2007 was, believe it or not, one of my two all-time-favorite rye recipe bourbons, the other being Hirsch 16 BW. I'd love to find another bottle of it (the OFBB)(well, the Hirsch too).2007 was a spectacular bottle. I found a 2005 dusty hunting recently, and that one is spectacular as well, but I miss the chocolate notes I remember in the 2007. '05 seems to be rye-fruit galore, and my god is it delicious. Different... but delicious.I may not get a chance to try the 2010. I know of only one store in Oregon that carries OFBB (Big Y in Eugene), and they still have the 2009 sitting on the shelves. If you can find one from 07, grab that- As Scott mentioned, it's spectacular!
nooga
I am new to bourbon, but I have found a store near me that has 2 bottles of 2008 OFBB for $27 a bottle. Would I like this bourbon as a newbie? The bourbons I like the best so far have been Buffalo Trace and Bulleit. The bourbons I have liked the least were 1792 and Four Roses (yellow label). Would the OFBB 2008 suit my tastes?
