hollywood
My girlfriend and I finally had a "two-day" weekend. Since Lynchburg, TN is the closest distillery at 2 1/2 hours, we made the trip! Very interesting distillery, and the town quaint...what there was of it. I might make a formal posting later on this. However, I had been looking for several of their "collectables". I not only found some in the local/area liquor stores, many that I saw had been signed by Master Distiller Jimmy Bedford! I was elated! Most of the bottles I was trying to obtain have been on the internet...anywhere from $50-60 to $100 or more unsigned, and I was buying them at regular price with Jimmy's "John Handcock"! We are trying to get up to Kentucky soon, but I was wondering....Is it typical for the Master Distillers to go out into local area shops and sign bottles?! I know that certain signings come about for special occasions, but to me this just went a step further. Anyone with any information in the Bardstown/KY area please let me know. Thanks, H'wood
bourbonmed
Hiya Eric, If you attend the festival, you'll have plenty of op to get special bottles signed. At the Saturday Auction, most bottles are already signed. But those won't come cheap -- remember it's a fundraiser. Bidding can get insane.Fortunately, the Master Distillers do hang around Bardstown liquor stores (like Toddy's) so it's easy to get your purchases signed. Check with the liquor stores to find out when the distillers are expected to stop by.If you attend the Saturday Gala you can get all sorts of freebies (miniatures, glasses, shot glasses, photos) signed. But that's an expensiove evening and you must wear a tux. Every Master Distiller attends. There are various activities and happy hours where you will find just about every distillery well represented. Bill Samuels signed a Makers for me last year at a happy hour they sponsored. Wild Turkey, L & G, Jim Beam, Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill, etc. all have events and/or booths you can visit and ask for signatures.Be sure to check bardstowntourism or kybourbonfestival on the net.Omar
CL
At Buffalo Trace last summer, they had Elmer T. Lee signed bottles of Buffalo Trace in the gift shop. They were the same price as what you would find in the liquor stores. I was happy to see no additional surcharge. I bought one for myself.
