Has anybody tasted this beer? Well I haven’t but I hope to some day. Here is a video from a Swedish beer blog when the blog guy tries it with another guy from the brewery: http://www.beersweden.se/archives/3371

Oh my good Gawd! These beers might do well with those that enjoy cask strength bourbons and scotch. I wouldn't want to try to put one down after mowing the lawn.

I've tried both TNP and STB.

STB smelled AMAZING. Absolutely amazing, like fresh hop cones dipped in caramel. It was a good sipper too, and you don't need much of it at all.

For TNP, I wasn't as a big of a fan of it. I don't really remember too much of it off the top of my head. I couldn't stop smelling the STP though.

edit: Just finished watching that video, and he described the nose almost exactly like I did lol. He's not joking though, it smells AWESOME.

Good Grief. Am I the only one who thinks this race to the top is getting a little silly? It's now worse than the race to cram bushels of hops into everything. How long until we see 50% ABV beer?

:soapbox:

Give me a good solid ale, pale, porter, wheat beer, something traditional without the world Imperial in front of it that I can sip on my back porch or at my favorite pub without falling off the barstool halfway through the glass. Something flavorful, colorful, fragrant, that doesn't taste like "gunsmoke" or like I have been buried in a hop-filled tomb.

I do like the hoppy beers, but, I, too, and disappointed in the trend toward higher and higher alcohol in beers. Sure, they allow for bigger body, since the SG starts off higher, but they limit how many beers I'm going to drive when I go out.

I remember Michael Jackson's review of a beer that was 18% and he said that this beer is proof that you can get to much of a good thing.

I'm only good for 1 or 2 beers so a 9%er isn't too bad. Some of the higher alcohol beers are quite tasty.

I'm with you, Josh. I don't mind a barley wine now and then, maybe a Belgian triple or an Imperial stout, but the notion of creating a super high alcohol beer just to do it seems silly. The Belgians seem to have it about right, balancing high alcohol with great flavor and aroma. And though I do enjoy hoppy beers as well (Germany's Jever is a good one to try), I think many of the microbreweries are simply going over the top with the amounts they dump into their beers. Any fool can over-hop a beer but to create one in perfect balance is an art form.
