Here's where we can mourn the loss of a bottle, either a favorite or something that you were happy to get out of the way to make room for another.

No matter what, we're here for you.

I killed the rest of a Binny's Weller 12 this morning in order to give the last 200ml to a friend who loves the stuff.

I've been on a rampage of sorts in an effort to make room for new bottles on the bar. In the last two weeks or so I've polished off bottles of Makers Mark, ETL, Lot B, Sazerac 18 and Fighting Cock, with AAA and an ER 10/101 facing extinction shortly. And yet, my wife complains that my bourbon collection looks as large as ever. That's actually good news, as it means she hasn't yet discovered my bunker!

Two Van Winkles hit the bin this week. First was a bottle of PVW15, an excellent bottle enjoyed by all who tried it. Second was a bottle of ORVW10/90, I liked this one better when it was first opened. Thankfully I have replacements for both.

Well, I've finally broken down and am working on draining the last bits of bottles. These have bought the farm recently, but it was only tonight I worked up the nerve to let some of these bottles go:

  • Four Roses Yellow Label - recent bottling
  • WT Rare Breed WTRB-03 engraved cap - Very pleasing, as have been all the WTRB-03's I've had.
  • Vintage Bourbon 17yo - circa 2006. Really good, warm, sweet and lingering. Perhaps my favorite standard KBD bottling
  • Dickel No 8 circa 1965 1/2 pint - Remarkably consistent with recent bottlings.
  • Old Forester F71-S77 - This is the real thing. 414 Baby!

My handle of Knob Creek finally kicked it. Fairwell, my affordable daily drinker.

Last weekend finished a JRPS 17, batch #5. Must be one of the better batches, because both I and my wife liked it. In fact, she drank more of it than I did.

Those of you whose spouses don't like bourbon have no idea how good you got it.

  • 2 weeks later...

I finally organized the bunker as good as I ever will to separate out the less than 1/4 filled bottles. This week has seen the end of a VWFRR (at its end it now seems like one of the best whiskey's I ever had), Binny's Weller 12 (I really prefer the age or nas 107's...sorry Joe) and a over the top delicious Old Forester BIB DSP 414 from 1982.

Pappy 15. Ever seen those nature shows where there's an ape and she's got a baby who died and she carries the dead baby around the forest because she can't absorb the loss? Well that's how I am with this empty bottle. :-(

Finally finished my bottle of 1999 EWSB. Seems like I've been working on it a while. :skep: Joe

Old Grand Dad 86-proof. I will replace it. At the price, it is a damned good everyday pour.

Finished my bottle of Everett's Weller SR. Good to the last drop. Can't wait for this years bottlings to arrive. I called them Monday, and I was told to call back Friday. So............. hopefully it will be here soon. It has been bottled and shipped to the distributor. Just awaiting final delivery. I hope the bottlings are as good as the barrel samples that Gary (Vosgar) and I were privileged to taste. :yum: If so................. It's all good. Joe

Just finished up a WTRB and a HH BIB. Both were very good. The WTRB has already been replaced. I will replace the HH BIB with another BIB. Maybe my palate is bad, but I had yet to have a "bad" bottled in bond" bourbon.

A bottle of Blanton's ran empty this week, but was replaced by the bottle I found in St. Augustine for $35.
