The Boozer
This past weekend finished of a bottle of BH. Although it does not get much love on the SB, I find the juice enjoyable, especially the last 1/4 of the bottle. Some slightly bitter cocoa powder flavors were there along with some sweet burnt carmel. It had been sitting in the back of my liquor cabinet for a good 6-9 months so I decided this weekend to finish her off. The downside is BH is its price. After a glass I brought out the OGD 114 and gave him the low down. He agreed the full flavor to price ratio far exceeded BH's pretty bottle and vowed never to buy another, now that he is in the know on Beam's shinanigans. Glad I tried it, but I didn't find many redeeming qualities.
LouKyLover
I myself buried a Lot B this weekend and damn near polished off a PVW15. Fortunately, I have a couple of bottles of each in reserve, so there is no need to hit the panic button yet. It's amazing, I have open bottles of 15 and 20 and yet, given the choice, the 20 never seems to take a hit. I like the 20 and 23, but I seem to favor the family as they get younger. That's fine with me, everybody has their own taste. I very much enjoy all of the OGD products including 114, but don't think the taste profile is the same or similar although the mashbills are reportedly highly similar. As I indicated, BH is pretty pricey for a 80 proof and would love to see it at 95-100 proof.

No more Beam hate here than for Wild Turkey and BT for lowering proofs and raising prices. It's just about being in the know on which companies bottlings you should stay away from. The Boozer
DonI guess you lost me on the "gave him the lowdown" and "now in the know on Beam's shinanigans" comments. Exactly what are you refering to?

Exactly what are you refering to?That Basil Hayden is 80 proof Old Grandad and that Beam is trying to pull the wool over the consumer's eyes. The Boozer
Don,BH has alwys been a high rye, 80 proofer since it was introduced in the late 80's (maybe even early 90's). I may be a little fuzzy on the history but I believe it was before Beam got a hold of the OGD line. 2nd: it has always been rumored that BH is the same mashbill as OGD, but that is all, urban rumor. Never seen any credible evidence to prove it is the exact mashbill. BH is 8 years old, I believe the OGD line is 4 to 6 years with some 8 year old juice mixed in. No question the products are similar in taste profile.
The Boozer
I stand corrected on the dates - BH appears to have been introduced about the same time period that Beam got the OGD line. As one gets older the memory fades (now where the hell did I put that bottle of bourbon  )
Rutter
Another bottle of Buffalo Trace down this weekend, its far too easy to drink but with it being one of the few freely available bourbons over here I'm not going to be complaining! I'll grab another soon.
fishnbowljoe
In the last week I've said goodbye to a SW Weller SR, OWA 7/107, and the 375 Early Times 150th Anniversary. Joe
The Boozer
Old Fitz BiB. Very nice for an everyday pour. Got another bottle waiting in the wings thanks to Amy & Josh. Thanks again!!
lrochau
Just emptied out a bottle of ORVW 10yr 90 proof. Glad I have a bottle and a half of 107 proof to replace it.
ODaniel
I think I have an issue with emptying bottles - I buy more different bottles to take my mind off ones getting low. OGD114 looks like it is going to be the next one to go. Couple pours left.

theDon
OGD 114 - we salute you!It makes a great hot totty or three. The wife and I partook of the 114 last night to fend off a cold.
M14Shooter
Just killed a Rowans Creek and an EC 18.The Rowans Creek was very good.Well worth the $30 I paid for it.The EC-18 was excellent.I could not believe how much depth and flavor this Bourbon has.It was a 1991 bottling.Glad I bought a case of this.Regards,Mike
dmarkle
2009 WLW. It was almost gray at the bottom from all the sediment, but it tasted wonderful. Hit it up with some decent water to knock it down to a bit over 100 proof and you are happy.
rocky480
Finished off a 6YO Willett last night that was a little too hot for my tastes. Lots of ice was the only thing that tamed this bourbon for me, so I was happy to make room for something else.
StraightBoston
Beam products bit the dust over the weekend: a Knob Creek that it's taken me since 2003(!) to finish off, and a Red Stag that made many a dry-cherry Manhattan. (Haters beware: the KC won't be replaced anytime soon, but the Red Stag already had a reserve in the bunker.)
Josh
Having the last few drops out of my long-suffering bottle of ORVW 10/107 this afternoon. It has been knocked around a car trunk, baked in the summer heat in that trunk and then in my garage, repeatedly dripped on and flooded out of its home under the sink, and plundered to fill flasks. It lived a long and fruitful life. RIP.
The Boozer
In the past week, Stagg 09' finally got emptied, along with a EWSB 2000 and OWA 107 NAS. The last two were delicious and the Stagg well, was Stagg!

theDon
Yet another bottle of Very Old Barton BIB down! This makes the 48th one this year. Where does it go?I have been downing our version of VOB BIB as well sir in the form of Tom Moore BIB. Probably a little younger but I'm still on the pre-BT aquisition juice. Maybe close to the same age. Cheers!
