I had an amazing dinner out in the Old Town of Bergamo. Narrow cobblestone streets, small bars, amazing AMAZING food... I was walking back to the car when I decided to stop in a bar just to see what they had. Not much.. JBW, JD, some WR... with a distorted eagle...? Oh no.. that was the ER101 behind it. Lawrenceburg.

I got half of a 750 for 10 euro! The good news is this. Look at the label. I am hunting this weekend.

That's pretty neat!

I've never seen the ER101-style label in a 90 proof bottling before. Except for the single barrel vs. vatting, this should be like the current product.

Does it have that excellent ER101 profile? I wonder if the quality that so many of us pine for in the ER101 is the complexity of the vatting vs. single barrel more than the higher proof.

Holy crap, I didn't even notice that this was 90 proof.

This is from the mid 80s. It is definately L'burg juice in there. I know, I have a bottle sitting back in Seattle.

Your going to need to find a way to secure that cork during your flight home. But a very cool bottle a collectors item for sure.

Taxes often influences the proof of bourbon in the foriegn markets. They may have made it 90 proof because the Italian tax on 100 proof or higher was prohibitive. It would be interesting to see if Wild Turkey was also 90 proof in that market.

Nice find. Hope you're having a great time there in Italy. It sounds wonderful. Don't worry yourself with corking the bottle for transport home. Just make a few Italian friends and down it with them before you leave!
