Has anyone had any of the Lawerenceburg bottles?

How does it compare to the Bardstown?

Were the original Black Maple Hill's wheaters?

Are the Bardstown bottles wheaters?

And what was the time frame on the Lawrenceburg releases?

OK, so it's been a really long time since I tried the BMH....but I knew the bottle we had was a Julian bottle. So tonight I poured a Pappy 15, Lawrenceburg BMH 14 and a WT Tribute. It tastes more like the Pappy Tribute!

OK, I'm done for the night! Tasted Tim's three samples and now this! Quite honestly....they're all starting to taste the same!! Good Grief!

To parse a little, by "Van Winkle whiskey," he means Stitzel-Weller whiskey, i.e., wheated bourbon.

Van Winkle Whiskey? While that is one way to describe it, I guess, it doesn't really say whether it's a wheat or rye based bourbon-he did use and own both types.

I also find it interesting that they were all even ages (well, except the rye was a 15yo) and now are odd ages (again except the rye is 18yo-though that may have changed since the last time I looked)

I was at a bar earlier this week and they just got in a bottle of BMH 16yr. The bartender said they only got 1 bottle via a lottery thru their distributor. and only 1 case came to Indiana.

Has anyone seen this bottling ?

I found it to be incredible.....:grin: To me it was like a cross between Pappy 20 and Hirsch 16..... Id love to find a bottle !!!!

Was this Lawrenceburg or Bardstown bottled? The L'burg was fantastic stuff (actual S-W stock from back in the day) A case of that could have turned up somewhere, I guess. All the Lburg stuff (apart from the 15yo rye) was even age statements (14,16,18,20 yo) after moving to B'town it went to odd (again with the exception of the rye, 18yo) age statements 11,13,15,17,21yo...then to NAS.

Maybe sometimes, but not always.

I would guess I bought it in 2007.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've seen a Black Maple Hill with an odd year, but they may be the norm for all I know.

I've had the 11, 14 and 16 and yes they were all good.

I still have a 21 unopened and they were all from Bardstown.

The L'burg bottlings would date from about 1999 to 2001, bottling would have moved to B'town in 2002, when VW joined forces with BT.

Interesting. BMH was never really available in KY back then, I had to go to Chicago back in the day to pick it up. The newer NAS bottlings finally showed in the Swamp while I was there, and I've seen it here and there, but there was a gap of time from 2004 to 2008 where I just wasn't in an area where it was available to keep track of age statement changes.

I have all three as well. I remember the 11 y/o as being excellent. The 14 y/o I can't remember and the 16 y/o was never opened.

Evansville is not really a dusty town, so it is hard to believe that the distributor had something for any length of time.

Next time Im in I'll have to check the bottling location.

No, it was recently re-released according to Seth at Shopper's Vineyard, they have it - very spend though, and he told me it was a new bottling of it. So what you had was likely that new release if you were told it just came out.

Also I have heard there is talk of a new 17/18 year old coming out. Sound familiar? Yes same barrels of wheat being marketed as DSP16.

And to follow up on what others said, Bardstown bottles are 11, 14, 16 and 21 year old the Rye was 18 and 23.

I think we all remember the life that stash of 1987 Cream of Kentucky Rye had, especially after Julian Van Winkle sold the barrels he thought were past their prime to KBD. I can't count the number of bottlings that came from that cache.

It looks like the cache of old Stitzel-Weller that Diageo was sitting on may have the same trajectory.

One thing I have found interesting about some of the KBD bottlings is how tiny some of those releases were. Every bottle probably was purchased by someone we know.

(I've been searching in vain for those numbers. Does anyone have them handy.)

Yes, thank you... I have seen a couple bottles now as well. It is a new bottling, and it is good.... but the prices I'm seeing are $125-$185......

The new BMH 16 has finally made it to CO. This release is different from the previous ones. This current bottle is a 16 year Small Batch, while the previous 2 were single barrel.

We usually get generous allocations for the state. My contact at the liquor store told me only 1 case came in for the whole state, and they were limited to 3 bottles. He also has heard rumors that CVI released a very limited amt. of the 16 year and is further aging whatever else they have for future relases. The price point is high, but there is not very much of it.

I picked up one to add to my BMH collection. It hasn't been opened yet, but I will report back whenever it does.

Was down in Savannah over the weekend and the liquor store I visited has all 3 versions of Black Maple Hill on the shelf (Regular, 16 and 23). Unfortunately they were on the top shelf, where I would have had someone get them down and they weren't priced. It was kind of cool to see the coloring differences between the 3 though. The 23 year was some real dark juice and if I would have been in the mood to spend over $150 on a bottle I would have jumped at it. Unfortunately the hotel cost and bar hopping killed my budget and I just couldn't justify it.

Would anyone be able to help me find a few of the early BMH bottlings? I am looking for the 15 yr rye, and the 18 & 20 year bourbons. I know where a 20 year is, but the guy won't sell it to me.....yet. I'll keep asking in the meantime. Also, does anyone remember which years these bottles were released (or any of the other bmh releases for that matter).
