Russells Reserve, although this is pending further investigation of Kentucky Spirit, though it seemed to resemble RR a lot during my limited tastings. . .

It was a hard choice between Kentucky Spirit and Wild Turkey 12yo. I went with KS because of its availability and price. Both are superior bourbons.

I voted for Rare Breed, but I admit that I have never had the pleasure of tasting the 12 year old.

I know of a couple of places that had a bottle or two on the shelves as of a couple of weeks ago. I imagine you will be able to find the odd bottle here and there for a couple of years.

Kentucky Spirit for me Jeff! grin.gif It has the taste and finish that I love best of all the Wild Turkey bottlings.

My favorite is Kentucky Spirit. I think highly of all aspects of it: the aromas, flavors and finish. Rare Breed is a close 2nd for me. I haven't yet tried the 12 YO.

Geez, this is a tough one confused.gif . It's almost like asking a father of six to pick his favorite child. (Please note that I said "almost." wink.gif ) In that light, I would say the WT80 would be the one I would disown shocked.gif . There's nothing there except watered-down potential. Always disappointing frown.gif . The WT101 and Russell's Reserve are much, much better whiskeys and must make "Pappa Jimmy R." proud. For my money, Rare Breed, KS and WT12 are the pride of the family. Perhaps the best bourbon I've ever tasted came out of bottle of KS. But, I have had other bottles of KS that did not quite match that one's superior quality. Rare Breed was the first bourbon that pulled my pants off blush.gif , and therefore maintains a special place in my heart. I recently finished my first full bottle of WT12 and was thoroughly impressed and delighted (all the more so because I have three more bottles in reserve laugh.gif ). So, I'm afraid I'm going to cop-out mad.gif and say it's a three-way tie. My favorite is which ever one of the three (RB-KS-WT12) is in my glass at the moment grin.gif

Two words that, at present, give Rare Breed the edge in my book: "Barrel Proof". Rare Breed has all the flavor AND all of the strength that one could desire in a bourbon.

But.....I haven't had the 12 yr. old, and I'm only now becoming better acquainted with KS. So things may change quickly!

Rare Breed, without a doubt.

RR is good stuff, and in my opinion far superior to WT101, but the RB tones down the pepper enough to let the rest of the flavor shine through.

I haven't had the chance to try KS as of yet, but unless it can be as consistent as Blanton's, I'll stick with RB.

I cast my vote for RB, however I am curious to what my feelings would be after a thorough tasting of the 12yo? I have just found/acquired the old gold labeled bottle. I'm anxious to find one of the current 12yo bottlings at a fair price. I've seen it once around here, and it went for $75.00. I may wait a little longer. grin.gif See ya, H'wood cool.gif

Gentlemen!

Let's settle this. We all bring a different bottle of WT to the festival, line 'em up at the tasting table and put them to the test. It'd be nice if we can find the rarest Turkeys such as Legend (Marvin?), Freedom, 1855, Stampede, and the 17 yr-old Ltd. Edition (Mark?). I got a 1970s bottle of the 8y old which may surprise many of you (much better than the 8y old available at duty free shops now).

I'm partial to the 12y, but let's not kid ourselves -- this will be The Mother of all bourbon taste challenges...may well end up in a draw. Bring many pants.

What say ye?

Count me in! Though I will probably only be able to bring the KS or the 12yo. You mentioned a few there that I had never heard of. Oh, the wonderful world of the Turkey is ever expanding smirk.gif

Taste has got to go to Rare Breed. For overall taste and value, I am leaning towards Russell's Reserve. I'd love to participate in a Wild Turkey Flight!!!

Ill bring the old RR cause it seems no one else around here likes it enough to buy it themselves!

Haha, I'd love to bring a bottle of Wild Turkey 17 but I only have the one in the collection (it just came last week) and I will wait to open it sometime in the future. Not to mention it is one of the more expensive bottles... I remember a while back there was talk of everyone chipping in like $10 and purchasing a bottle of Distillers Masterpiece... I think I can still get a bottle of the 17 year but it'd take almost 20 people at $10 to be able to get one! crazy.gif

Count me in! Hell, I'll put in $20 or $30 laugh.gif Have you tried this one before? If so, what are your thoughts?

Tom,

I like it, I'm just not sure it's worth half the price of a bottle of Kentucky Spirit grin.gif

Hi all you bourbon drinkers,

Save your cash,if you want a bottle of WT 17Y to drink at the festival this

year I think I can still get it for around $120.I will try to make it to the

festival. smile.gif Any other bottles in mind you guys want to drink?

Koji,

We were looking at trying to get WT17 and perhaps Blantons Gold for the festival. As you can see the prices I have to pay are largely inflated due to shipping, customs and who knows how many other people trying to make a profit. Thanks from all of us for the offer! smile.gif

jeff:

There is no good reason to touch WT101 while some RR is around. RR was my daily for about 2 weeks. (almost done with my 2nd bottle, too).

RR, to me, is a pretty good value for the price, i just prefer RB. (and don't mind the extra 6 dollars or so)

of course, this is keeping cost a consideration.

perhaps instead of comparing WT products, you should compare equal dollar amounts of WT products. one bottle of KS, or three of WT101? smile.gif

This was sort of the point of my "Best Value Bourbon" thread a while back. I think 1 bottle of KS is a better value than 2 of RR or 3 of WT101. You could go as far with this as you want, (i.e. 1 bottle of Pappy 23yo or 10 bottles of RR, etc...)
