birdman1099
I cracked open a Pappy 20 last weekend for a friend. Even though he loved it, I noticed that some was "wrong". AS with most wheaters, I thought it should get better after opening. I had a pour today..... Its still there....I taste that "off" note that is prevelent in most of the Hirsch 16 Gold Foils. (assuming from the tanking)so it got me thinking.... Is Julian Tanking some of his SW stock?I surely hope not. Pappy 20 used to be a staple of mine. But this bottle will be hard to finish. and now I am wondering if I will ever buy another bottle.
SBOmarc
I had 2 Pappy 20's on my birthday and I noticed no taste difference at all.It tasted the same as it always did. If it makes any difference it was at a bar that I visited for a late lunch.
OscarV
I had a Pappy 20 in Louisville a few weeks ago and thought it was the best I've had.No way to tell from the bottle about which release.
gothbat
From your comment about how it's going to be hard to finish the bottle I'd assume yours was a lot worse than mine but the last PVW20 that I opened seemed a bit off and I noticed it had a cork that didn't look particularly healthy so I just figured bits of it had fallen into the whiskey and tainted it a little; same with the last VWFRR I opened. Actually, I'm not sure which one it was but I remember little bits of cork left on the mouth of one of the bottles after I pulled it out the first time. You probably would have noticed it if this were the case but have a look, you never know.
JamesW
I haven't noticed anything wrong with my Pappy 20's but my last 2 bottles of ORVW 10/107 have had an off-taste for certain. I also contemplate not buying anymore of it. The last battle wasn't as "off" as the one before it. I guess it's just the luck of the draw. I sure hope I don't draw any bad PVW20's though :frown: . BourbonRob
I opened a bottle last month that was good as ever...My problem was trying to keep it in the open bottle collection!I'm sorry to hear this it would be devasting for, as you say "staple", to become a bad pour. Hopefully this was a one time thing. I look forward to opening another in the future...
BourbonJoe
My son Bob had a flawed bottle of Pappy 20. It was pretty awful as soon as the corked was popped. I don't know how it happened and I told him to pm Julian that he had a bad bottle. He chose to drink it anyway. Just more proof that you CAN get bad bottles.Joe :usflag:

SMOWK
Opened one at 12AM last night in celebration of my birthday, today. Outstanding as always. I've gone through 6 or 8 of them prior to this one, and I've got 3 more in the bunker. Since the one I just opened was purchased at the same time as the 3 others, I'm assuming they are all outstanding as well. We shall see, but not for quite a while. docbible
I have yet to open an off bottle of pappy. One bottle of Blackberry Farms pappy 15 had a slight musty hint but did not detract from from the enjoyment. Pappy 20 still remains one of my favorite pours. Cork taint or an off bottle can happen with any brand. I think BT has been good in the past in trying to correct a problem if they are contacted. Good luck, tim
