Does anyone know if the new BT experimental French Oak Barrel Aged and American Oak Chips Seasoned Bourbons are available in the Chicago area?

Here is an email response I got from Kris Comstock when I asked if any were headed to Michigan, although I think I knew his answer before I even asked...

Doug-

These are very rare whiskies. In, fact none is going to Michigan. I would try Chicago, but you will need the best of luck to come a bottle.

Cheers,

Kris Comstock

At least he was honest.

It never hurts to call your whiskey monger, express your interest, and suggest perhaps a 'reserve' list with your name at the top.

I'm now on a waiting list at Binny's if they get any bottles ...

Thanks

Just a curiosity, but: is ANY of the previous/current BTEC issues now stashed in a BT warehouse for future general release? Anybody know?

I don't think any of them have gone to production.

Do you also know what they're charging? I considering buying one every time I pass through Indianapolis.

Where in Indy are they selling it? I don't recall ever seeing BTEC at Kahn's or V & T. Or 21st amendment for that matter.

"As with previous releases in the Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection, they are packaged in half-bottles (375 ml) with a suggested retail of $46.35."

http://chuckcowdery.blogspot.com/2010/08/buffalo-trace-enters-wood-wars-with-two.html

So the $80 I saw is a bit excessive. I'd have to love it to justify that number, and then I wouldn't drink it thinking each occasion wasn't special enough, and then I'd regret the decision even more. Viscious cycle.

I bought the first two entire BTEC releases, and had the third reserved for me -- but never picked it up.

As I asked earlier, and Robert noted in response, no one is aware that Buffalo Trace has EVER done anything with these bourbons except SELL them. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't fault them for that. I'm pretty much a laissez faire capitalist.

I fault US, for paying such a high premium to taste stuff that, even if we love it, we can't buy ever again!

I've certainly paid premiums for a lot of whiskeys -- many of them from Stitzel-Weller -- with known pedigrees. I've spent top-shelf prices for bottles that I know I may not be able to get again until next year's issue pops up. But, I'm through paying through the nose for something that I can't EVER buy and taste again -- even if I adore it as the greatest benefit to man since, well, creation:shocked: -- because it really never has been in production! And still isn't!

So, go get 'em, tigers! But, I'm a 'mutton chop' anymore re the BTEC.

Interesting take on the subject TN.

I've never bought any of them because of the high price and mixed reviews. I've always though my money was better spent on something I know I'll like. This is the same reason why I'm reluctant to spend any real money on a bottle of scotch. I've bought too many bottles that were over $50, and terrible IMO.

I don't understand dissing the entire BT experimental program. What would one expect them to "do" that they haven't done?

Some people just don't like science.
