sku
A friend of mine who is an excellent dusty hunter sent me these pictures of a bottle he found in the back of a store in the midwest somewhere. It appears to be a specialty, personalized bottling by Brown Forman. There is a blank where it appears they would have written in who (or what establishment) the bottle was for. Have any of you ever seen anything like this or do you have any info. on it? I'm curious as to how it was used, when it's from and any other information that could shed on light on what seems to me a pretty cool find. Thanks. cowdery
I don't recall the whole story but I've seen these before. I think it was an annual series for some period of time, or maybe an occasional one. I have seen others. As for when, is that a real tax stamp? It looks like it might be fake, which would put it in the early 1980s. The design says late 70s-early 80s to me too.I assume these were business gifts, maybe for shareholders, maybe for customers, maybe both. I don't believe they were ever sold. sku
Thanks Chuck. Why do you think it might be a fake tax stamp. I assumed it was real, given that it has a number on it.
cowdery
Thanks Chuck. Why do you think it might be a fake tax stamp. I assumed it was real, given that it has a number on it.Mostly because I couldn't get a close look at it from the picture. If it says "United States Treasury" and all that stuff then it's both real and pre-1982 or whenever it was in there that the tax stamps ended. Is it metric? cowdery
I received a PM from someone who provided good analysis placing the bottle as pre-mid-1960s.I don't think it is much older than that, although in the immediate post-Prohibition era it was common for producers to dividend their stockholders with whiskey instead of cash. sku
You don't want to know what it's worth? :slappin:I'm hoping that by the time we're done with it (if I'm lucky enough to share in it), it'll be worth nothing.
