Interesting comment, Jeff, about being cleaner and focused, I know what you mean. But I still prefer the oldie.

I'm also one of the very few, if not only one, who actually prefers the current release to the ND OGD 114.

Josh has expressed the same preference and I like 'em both.

Can't say I have ever had the ND version but the current one is one of my favorite, in the top 10. $40 way too much.

I like Old Grand Dad 100 proof so the 114 proof is a no-brainer for me. I actually think the 100 proof is a bit undervalued and wonder if, when the economy returns back to some form of normal, we won't see some price increases on it.

On a side note I found a bottle of Old Grand Dad 114 proof for $12.00 on closeout at Winn-Dixie on Friday. It pays to shop around as I rarely got to Winn Dixie liquor stores but the ABC that promised to hold a bottle of Wlliam LaRue Weller for me didn't so I walked out, miffed, and empty handed. The Winn Dixie was on the way home so just for giggles I stopped in. I bought the only bottle they had in stock but told them I would buy as many as they would sell me at that price.

I'm definitely going to try this again, my last ones were a few years ago. Current Beam premiums are much better than in past years IMO. I truly believe boards such as, but especially, this one are assisting to see not just new releases and special editions etc. but improved versions of established brands.

Came across a bottle of this but couldn't pull the trigger. Thought I would throw it out here, since I am new. It is worth $40 or should I move along?

Since OGD 114 is only sold in fifths, I'm going to have to say "no". It's great stuff. But here in Lexington it goes for half that price. At at $21, it's very MUCH worth it. Where the hell ARE you? Saudi Arabia? I saw it in Arizona for $20. Unless it's a magnum, I'm saying NO.
