cas
I hunted around and couldn't find much on WT 8 year on the site - has any info on this been posted before? I picked some up at duty free in Port Huron, MI this week on the way over to Ontario. It's quite good, but how does it differ from the regular release 101 and why is it only available duty free?Craig

At last years sampler I asked Jimmy Russell why we can't get WT12 in the states. He said that we would have to choose between WT12 and Rare Breed as there's not enough aged stock on hand for both.Hopefully the investment that Campari is making in their business will allow both in another 10 years. I don’t know for sure why they did drop the age statement in USA several years ago, but my guess would be lack of well age stock.Leif
sgtgto
It is very good, probably one of the best deals out there for bourbon. $21 a liter. I have not done a side by side with the 8 year of old yet, but I will have to now.
B.B. Babington
It's too bad they don't do more aging. Their premiums with age statements are excellent products, IMO. Though the packaging is excessive, I love the somewhat recent 14yo.

OscarV
About 4 years ago a buddy of mine brought me back a 1 litre WT8yo from Denmark and it was outstanding, it had a sweetness to it that I never get from any Turkeys.
cas
The 12 may be my all time favorite. But I'm down to a half bottle of the split label and a full bottle of the cheap gold label.Craig

BourbonJoe
If I buy Rare Breed today, it's because I like the nice box and glasses that come with it for the holidays:rolleyes:.Gotta disagree with ya Tim. I find the WT-RB-03 to be very tasty indeed.Joe :usflag:

But, I have to agree with Tim in that if given a choice, I'd have WT make the 12 year over the RB.Joe, I know how you feel about distilleries that drop age statements. I think I remember hearing that all WT was age stated at 8 years, at one time. Do you know what year that WT began to use younger whiskey in their flagship brand, and dropped the 8 year age statement for the US market? birdman1099
Wouldn't that be 1992 when the "Old #8" made its debut?
SMOWK
Wouldn't that be 1992 when the "Old #8" made its debut?I've got a bottle from 1996 that says Old No 8 on it, so it must be before then.
ACDetroit
Wouldn't that be 1992 when the "Old #8" made its debut? You right Bird! 1992 the Old No. 8 came out and the AS was gone. I would guess 97-98 would have been the time frame the No. 8 left as well!Tony

bourbonNOOG
I don't get into much Dusty hunting as many of the member do here. Mostly because I don't have the time, wish I did, but I don't.I did unearth something very interesting this weekend. I was over at the in-laws house this weekend, who are an older catholic family. At some point there was decision that someone needed to go get lunch. The mother in-law and I were appointed as the two who should go. We went down in the garage and got in the car and as she was backing out of the driveway, I noticed two boxed on the bottom shelf of their cluttered garage. I inquired and she said, "oh that's just a bunch of liquor that we bought a long time ago before the kids were born that we don't drink." My eyes lit up. I said, "do you think Haskell (father in-law) will mind if I look through it and I'll buy anything that I might want." She said, "he'll probably just give it to you, he'll never drink it."When we got back the food was passed out. While everyone was enjoying theirs I snuck back down to the garage and pulled out the boxes. There before me lied a 750 ML bottle and a 1.75 liter bottle of WT 101 8 year both marked 1979 on the bottom. Unopened with the tax strips. There was a also a 70's bottle of Johnny Walker Black. I took them up stairs and proceeded to haggle with the father in-law. In the end he did just give them to me, even after I begged him to let me pay for them. They had been there since before my wife was born (28 years). They bought them in Chicago back in the 70's and he quit drinking liquor when he became a diabetic in the late 80's. Needless to say, when I got home that night I popped the 750 ml WT 8 yr and sat on the couch and enjoyed it in all it's majesty.

Enoch
Is there any difference between Old No. 8 and current WT101. A local store has several gift boxes with glasses and Old No. 8 that they have had for awhile for about $20 a box. The bottles have suffered a little evaporation though. squire
Enoch I would read the label carefully to make sure it is an eight year old expression. As to whether is worth the price I would hesitate to buy a bottle that has been evaporating.
