MJL
In the past my local sellers of booze never seemed to closeout any brands. In the past few weeks I have taken advantage of a number of closeouts and am wondering if this is a sign of the economy or just a standard business practice. I got four bottles of Dickel Barrel Select for $19 per bottle, four bottles of Baker's for $23 a bottle, etc, etc. I recognize these prices are way below even sale prices. This has started me thinking about supply issues coming down the line or perhaps these retailers are just having problems and are trying to move slow selling stock. White Dog
Another possibility is that the wholesaler has to hit a depletion goal for Diageo, and as Dickel is not a priority brand, they'll dump it at cost. The retailer than gets to make margin while selling it to you at a great price. (At least that's how it works with wine, so I'm guessing the same rules will apply.)Same with Baker's, as it doesn't sell like Knob or other Beam products, and the wholesaler wants to keep Fortune Brands happy. (I always see Baker's collecting dust.)The end of the year is typically when we see great deals like this. Plus, the economy does have something to do with it. MJL
I have been finding closeouts on gin, vodka, scotch, etc. Almost all of the closeouts have been middle to upper end stuff. I just wonder if the middle to upper end bottles, especially the larger sized bottles are not selling as well as they should and are now being moved off. Are anyone else noticing these sell offs? Perhaps this is just a Miami thing.
sailor22
I haven't noticed that sort of thing here in North Florida. It's hard to Closeout when you don't stock much.
Halifax
When something is no longer listed at NC's ABC they stick it on a shelf with the others that are going off. They just sit there at regular price until someone buys them up. On a very rare occasion a county ABC board may take it upon themselves to close something out, but they have to get permission form the state first. In other words... there aren't that many deals in NC to be had.
lrochau
Not huge finds but I was able to pick up two bottles of Old Pogue for the price of one and a bottle of Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit for under $25. It was at the local liquor store in southern Indiana. I thanked the lady at checkout for the great prices and she told me the owner was tired of them sitting on the shelves for a few years.Meanwhile, same store had a massive stack of 30 packs of some beer that I've never heard of for $8.99 and they were flying out the door... callmeox
Any chance you'd be willing to disclose the store, and whether there was any KTKS left at $25?May I suggest that you ask in a PM? If history means anything, a public disclosure will lead to either a lurker or another member beating you to the punch on the bottles. The best case is that they will end up in a bunker, the worst case on eBay. It's a hard lesson that gets re-learned here often.
lrochau
I actually bought the last WTKS they had and the last two Pogue's. It's been months ago. They had a very small close out section that they were sitting on.
