Hey 'all..........What are your thoughts on Jefferson's?

In PA it's Jeffersons Bourbon 82.3 Proof @ 29.99

The reserve and select are special order.

I like it, but the price is a killer, so I wait till it's on sale @ 5.00 off...One of my favs!

I think the Jefferson's 82.3 is a solid bourbon. It's pluses are a nice reasonably thick viscosity and an almost silky texture. It brings some straightforward caramel, butterscotch, corn, vanilla, and toast aromas that are backed up in the mouth. But there's very little more than that to it. It lacks a lot of depth and complexity and I'd like to see the proof much higher. The finish falls off very rapidly, which for me is a real killer. Overall it's a very nice sipper that brings reasonable value.

What he said. I like the reserve better, but it's still too much for what it is.

Lab, I enjoyed the whisky but like similar ones on the shelf I do a quick calculation over how much I'm paying for the expression and how much additional for the fancy bottle that will be tossed once empty.

It's pricey and I find it actually has a very nice wood/cedar component to it, but it's of course got little body.

Knowing what I know now I would spend money on something else, but it wasn't a total waste to me.

If it's the 15 year I am having some now at our work party. Very tasty. It was that or Knob Creek or WT 80p. The bartendress was pooring very healthy doses as well, as I was the only one drinking it. I don't think I would buy a bottle at the prices I've seen it for here, $40-50 a bottle.

other than being a tad sweet, Jefferson small batch is one of my favorite bourbons. It's so smooth with dark carmel and a little smoke.

Hey Lab Walker,

I didn't want to double up on post, but when you asked this question awhile back I knew I'd be writing up a review in the following weeks. Below, I attached the full review. You've probably tried Jefferson by now, but I hope you find the review interesting/enjoyable, nonetheless. Just a side note, I prefer small batch over their pricier reserve.

Jefferson Small Batch

I came upon Jefferson at Blue Kitchen’s online bourbon tour. I have to say, it seemed liked the reviewer’s favorite, and for about a year’s time, it was mine too. Other than being a tad sweet, it’s close to perfection.

taste - warm, roasted embers, and dried dark fruits up front, then smooths out, tangerines, orange oil, tropical fruits, toasted marshmallows, hazelnut, coconut? finishes with white pepper & smoke, grilled peaches and warm burns.

smell - tangerine flesh, orange zest, nectar, pralines, pecans, twigs, dates, raisins, apricots, toffee, cinnamon, allspice, salts, an open fire, you can smell the char of the barrel.

look - hazy Grand Marnier, amber honey, dull brass, copper and rust solution, molten glass.

rating - 8.75, I think this review is jaded by having had the “best of the best this week.†What the heck, I’ll bump it to a 9.25. This is one of my favorites.

price - $30 - $40

Cheers,

Swift
