Can anyone tell me more about Ardbeg 10 yr 1978? How would it compare to regular Ardbeg? How much should I expect to pay at retail?

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide.

Thanks, Ebo. I think I was mistaken with the 10 yr designation. I just know the 1978 part. I'll head over tomorrow, to make sure.

I checked wine-searcher.com for Ardbeg 1978 and didn't

see any USA sellers. Plenty of non-US but a bit pricey.

A google shopping search may help find some as well.

Ardbeg 1978 is long gone sold out

If you find it at any retailer consider yourself lucky.

(It might be on their collector shelf, locked in a cabinet, for a price you won't like thou)

The vintage 1978 was bottled 1997 to 1999 and is around 17-19 years old, depending on what batch have

For more info about Ardbeg in general I will advice you visit Ardbegproject.com

You won't find a better independent page about a distillery ! nothing comes even close to this site

If you want alternatives to the Ardbeg 10 standard I would go for any of the versions available at retailers of today. Otherwise you will pay for the collector value of the bottle and not the whisky "value".

That said Ardbeg is usually always very good

look out for Corryvreckan, Nam beist, Uigedail for current cheap "alternatives" to A10 (and maybe Supernova, but thats a limited release)

Kind regards

Steffen

Steffen is a good one for advice on Ardbeg and I can chime in too. The 78 is nice, but there are much better 70s bottlings out there, yet they are usually higher in price. I would expect to pay around $250-300 for it today, I am sure it was much cheaper on the shelf but I do not know the exact price.

I personally would save some cash and go for the Oogie, ANB, or Corry if you have not tried those yet
