I remember seeing that stuff. Weller and Water was/is a popular drink here in Texas. Particularly in the days when Weller Special Reserve was almost every bars' well(er) bourbon. This way you could add the "same" water used in diluting the bourbon to bottling proof....or so went the schtick.

Yep stuff was all over the place and ads for "Weller and Water" as well. Too bad I didn't fill a warehouse with cases of OWA and WSR in 1982, the day I became legal to purchase..

Should have looked at the date on that post!

Now I'm wondering how this thread went five years with no posts and wasn't closed. :skep:

Well Scott, it's not your imagination. I merged the new and old threads on Weller Water.

Cheers! Joe

Oh.

I was hoping for something more amazing, like multiverse bleed-over.

Fun Michter's Distillery fact:

The fate of Michter's Distillery in Schaefferstown, PA may have been very different because of the bottled water craze in the early 80's. In the 1979-1980 time period, the management of Michter's was looking for a potential buyer. Austin Nichols was already using them as the distiller of their 101 Rye and saw a possible business opportunity. Michter's wells were strong and pure and Austin Nichols wanted to enter the bottled water craze. Engineers were sent up to Michter's to inspect the facility, wells, and bottling capacity. An offer was made- but it was too late. Another businessman, Mr. Veru, had made a larger offer and the distillery was sold to him instead. I often wonder what would have happened if Austin Nichols would have been the high bidder and started producing not only all their Wild Turkey 101 Rye there, but also Wild Turkey Spring Water?
