Won an auction for Pure Kentucky XO, the guy actually

sent me Old Forester BB 2007. I think I came out ahead,

what say you all? I've never had either one before.

The whole thing sounds odd to me.

But I am the wrong person to say if you made out or not on the OFBB because I don't care for the entire OF line-up which includes Woodford Reserve and Jack Daniels.

That Pure Kentucky XO is starting to sound good to me.

The 2007 OFBB is an all-time favorite of mine.

I'd kill for another bottle.

Somebody send me Bob's street address!

If you got something other than what you bid on... it sounds like you got screwed.

+1 Demand the correct bottle be shipped to you. Refuse to pay return shipping on the one they sent incorrectly.

I'll add to that, tell them it's illegal for you to rebox it and ship it back since you can't legally ship through the post office, and don't have a retail liquor license to to ship through UPS.

I hear that Oscar. The only thing I like more than a little in the whole line is the OFBIB. Now THAT is some tasty juice. I don't understand why none of the others are on the same level. You would think something would come of the old OFBIB juice.

As you can see, opinions vary, but from a price-point position, you came out ahead.

As for me, while I do like Pure Kentucky XO, I'd rather have the OFBB 2007.

Price alone clearly is not (should not be) the determinant of value. Think the Beam "small batch" bourbons (Booker's as a prime example) vs the competition.

I never said price was the main factor in value. I was merely pointing out that OFBB does cost more than Pure Kentucky. And I agree with you. OGD 114 is a better bourbon than Basil's, to stick with the Beam analogy.

I bought a bottle of signature to compare to a few bottles of OFBIB I picked up. I gave it away. Terrible stuff. WTF happened?

John I'd keep the Forester. I would have chosen it over the two and several reasons are:

a) the whiskys in the mingling are all fully matured from a proven house

B) it is a one off in that the Blender seeks to offer a different expression each year rather than adhere to a certain taste profile

c) we know who the maker is, who the Blender is, what his philosophy behind the blend is, and that sort of information is something I value as a consumer.

Smowk the Forester I get today, 43% or 50%, has been consistent with what I have been getting for years now, it's good, I like it, and those folks don't fix what ain't broke.

Thanks for the replies folks. I guess technically I did

get screwed on the deal because I didn't get what

I was supposed to. Oh well. The OFBB I got is one of

the tastiest bourbons I've ever had. I could live on

this stuff! It is certainly well worth the money ($40)

I paid.

Happy New Year everybody!!

You ever ever hear from the seller on this? Makes me wonder if somebody who was supposed to get a bottle of OFBB ended up with your Kentucky XO.

When putting Signature and BIB next to each other, they don't even taste like the same whiskey. I'm glad I've got a few BIBs in various sizes stocked away. To me, it's a great example of the old saying, "they don't make 'em like they used to".
