New VOB bottles same as the old?

I was just wondering if anyone has tried the new VOB bottles next to the old ones? Slight differences? Or is it the same juice?

Haven't seen any new bottles on the shelf here in E. TN, and stores stock a ton of VOB. I sure hope they don't change the whiskey...it's a terrific standby.

Barton has been one of my standbys for years and I haven't noticed any change.

I don't have much use for the 80 and 86 proof VOB but the 90 and BIB are regular pours for me, so I'd hate to see either of those go. Of course, the BIB with a dash of water always satisfies my buddies who don't like the higher proof.

I'm just guessing here, but my impression is that 75% to 80% of Barton's volume comes out of Kentcky and even a big shelf set of VOB, like they have at Liquor Barn, will include about the same number of facings for each proof, except 100 which is slightly less than the others. Maybe someone who has been to a Kentucky Liquor Barn recently can confirm or correct. My point is that all of the proofs seem to be about equally popular in the state that amounts to most of their business. That doesn't mean they'll always export all of the different proofs. Since they are still a value product I would expect them to emphasize the 80 proof to get the best possible price point, and since practically everything they're competing against is 80 proof too.

Good choice of words Gary, describing Barton as consistent, that they have been for a number of years now. We used to a pass over it to grab a bottle of Yellowstone or Old Fitzgerald but it's still around and as good as ever. I almost miss the cheesy 1950s style bottle.

Production at TM has been pretty sporadic, from several good sources.

I would guess that what is in the VOB bottles will stay the same for a while though regardless.

That's the (sinking) feeling I get whenever producers "update" their bottles/labels. I actually liked the cheesy '50s style bottle as well, though in actual fact with VOB they've retained the bottle shape and only changed the label. I was more upset when the ORVW 10/107 and Old Weller Antique 7/107 got a slicker looking bottle and lost the "parchment"-style paper label that made them look more old fashioned and traditional, in my mind.

The few of us that live off TM BIB have noticed a slight difference in the current versus bottlings a couple years ago. Not bad just a little harsher. Wish we had VOB to compare. Not going to keep me from buying one of the best bargains in the bourbon section.

That appears to be it, Timothy. I believe someone had a pic up earlier in the thread and took it down. I just picked up a bottle last week and the sweet nectar inside (I almost said juice...) seems the same to me.

True but at least in that case they had the decently to actually change the label instead of just slapping the old one on a new bottle. That really does look like a pos now, too much empty space.
