I'm headed into Arlington next week, and the week of Oct 10th.

Any suggestions for stuff like EH Taylor, other higher end current production bourbons? Possibly an Old Forester Birthday or Prohibition Release?

I'll be around Six Flags/360, on both 30 (hotel) and 20 (training).

Thanks!

Cool. I live in Arlington. We have a lot of big box stores around here, mostly Majestic and Centennial. There are also a lot of independents on Eastchase Parkway. Probably the best bet for variety is the Goody Goody at I20 and Hulen.

Spirits downtown Dallas has OF B-Day 2009 and Prohibition. Ask for Devin he's the owner. Also big news for Spriits, they just bought their first barrel. It's Buffalo Trace and it should be in soon. In my opinion they have the best selection at wharehouse prices in DFW.

Seems like a lot of people are getting in on the barrel program bandwagons around here. Fossil Creek has their own KCSB, as does Sigel's. Soon True Spirits in Carrollton will have their own barrel of BT.

Don't forget the Whiskey Cake's Eagle Rare (best I've had of that brand) and all the Twin Peaks (like a Hooters - just think on the name for a second) has their own BT bottling (same guy who picked for Whiskey Cake) that is as good as Binny's has ever had... really good stuff.

I wish more of these retailers would do SB's...

We'll have a Specs here soon - undisclosed location so far (they won't tell me and I haven't looked too hard), but they say it will open before Christmas! Specs in Dallas - that's going to be HUGE!

Goody Goody has an ETL selection, have not tried it, but have seen it at the local branch/version of Goody Goody, Harley's Cut Rate.

There was a strip club here in Columbia called Twin Peaks.

Plans changed, and I came back home yesterday morning. I'll be back that way October 10th, so no big disappointment.

I did see Fat Dog / Centennial? has Booker's on sale this week. I may grab a bottle if I'm really in the mood.

No sale price at Centennial will EVER beat the everyday prices at Spirits or Beverage Depot. Trust me on this.

The only way a Spec's would be worth it here is if it were as big as the flagship store downtown Houston, with the deli and specialty foods. Spec's stores have just as jacked up price's as the overpriced Centennials and Goodys we are plagued with here already. No thank you!

I've always thought Spec's had decent prices... better than Centennial/Majestic and Sigel's, but not as cheap as Goody or some of the independent stores in town.

I do like that Spec's flagship store. I used to stop in there quite a bit when work would take me to Houston. I do agree that something like that would do well in Dallas. Sigel's in Addision has a small section that does something similar, but not nearly on the scale of the flagship Spec's (from what I remember).

From my experience - and I'm in Houston about once a month - Specs is as good as Goody Goody (on average) and their sales can even beat Bev Depot. You have to have your Specs key card and pay in cash (or debit card) to get the best prices, but I've usually walked out of their with much better prices on things - and a better selection - than I can find here in Dallas.

I'm hearing the Specs will be in the old Toys R Us on Central near Walnut (not sure that's exact - don't know where that store is). It will be a the full deal - deli, food, market, etc. along with the booze. They are wanting to make a name for themselves out of the gate and attract all the SoTX expats who miss them.

Regardless, Specs will blow doors of Centennial, Sigels, etc. pricing on their worst day.

Damnit, that's one exit down from my office. There goes the paycheck! Guess I need to sign-up for one of those Spec's keys.

Yeah, you have to have the key card and pay in cash to get the "good" prices - so it's a multi-tier discount and I can see how it would be annoying to some folks.

Who knows, maybe the Dallas store will be different? I know that Austin, San Antonio & Houston are all key card/cash based for the best prices.

Just one example of many - I got Longrow 10/100 for $59 on sale, and Angels Envy for $29, and ORVW 10/107 for $25... just a few examples of good prices they've had. I'm sure they are more expensive in some areas, though.

Specs just posted on their Facebook page:

"We're shooting before the holidays our address will be 9500 N Central Expressway"

That's the huge old Toys/Kids R Us building from what I can tell... It'll be as big as Binny's South Loop or Party Source - bigger than the downtown Houston Specs, I'd think...

I can't wait. This not only means great prices and selection, but more work!

Sounds like we need to have a Spec's grand opening, SB-DFW get together. Everyone in the area meet there on a Saturday, buy a few things, bitch about the prices and selection or be amazed by them and then proceed to the nearest members house for a tasting. My house is out as I commute 60 miles one way. So who's hosting this thing?
