Just so we don't focus entirely on the controversial Pioneer award, the following are the rest of the (North)

American Whiskey-related awards from MA this year:

Best Buys: Evan Williams & Very Old Barton BiB

American Whiskey of the Year: The entire BTAC

Canadian Whiskey of the Year: 40 Creek Confederation Oak

Industry Leader of the Year: Glencairn Crystal

Lifetime Achievement: Fritz Maytag, Angelo Lucchesi (and Evan Cattanach of Diageo)

And Distillery of the Year: Heaven Hill

Any thoughts?

My thoughts

Best Buys: Elijah Craig 12 takes that category for me

American Whiskey of the Year: "The entire BTAC." - A fine choice, but they should have picked only one this year so they could pick another one from the collection next year.

Canadian Whiskey of the Year: Canada is America's hat.

Industry Leader of the Year: "Glencairn Crystal" - Love the glasses. I'll stand behind this one

Yeah, good choices. It is a little saddening though: American bourbon/whiskies did so well at this year's awards, I feel like next year will be dominated by our friends from across the pond (or the great Northern territory some call "Canada").

Very disappointed with John's pick in "Top Ten New Whiskies". I don't think 2010 WLW deserved a spot on that list. A glaring omission of the 2010 Parkers Heritage 10 year wheater that pretty much every one here(including myself) loves.:frown:

I found this one interesting. John specifically pointed out that in any given year the BTAC had certain shining stars worth picking up. He said this was the first year that each release was on top of its game and for the first time all 5 were worth picking up. "get your checkbooks ready" I think is what he said.

WLW is in its 6th release. I wonder how many more years it will be considered a "new whiskey."

I'm also available John but my fee will be exorbitant. I figure if I charge a lot folks might think I'm worth it.

I see that Lew is now assigned to reviewing Canadian products as well as US craft distilled items at Malt Advocate (along with beer) .

Did he miss the meeting where you all chose lines or did he tick someone off?
