There's a new blogger on the block, one who lurks here as well as on facebook: http://bourboncritic.com/

She or he is an idosyncratic sort, loving two of the most dumped on bourbons here, Basil Hayden and Woodford Reserve, and profoundly disliking EC 12.

Bourbon critic, show yourself!

Basil Hayden’s. Basil Hayden’s is arguably the tastiest bourbon out there, and it’s easily the most beloved by women. It’s only 86 proof, so it’s lighter and the flavor really comes through. This comes in around $45 a bottle or so.

We need to find where they got the hook up for that 86 proof Basil Hayden's! We've all been missing out, apparently.

They have questionable taste in bourbon sites beyond SB and Chuck's blog, too.

I can't imagine why anyone would pay any attention to an anonymous critic, but he/she did call me 'legendary,' which is I guess better than 'old.'

There fixed that for ya:grin:

Most people passionate about Woodford seem to have had an encounter with it at some wedding or party where they had the time of their life. Whenever they drink it, it takes them back to that perfect place.

Ahh I had my first Woodford at our hotel on South Beach when they were out of Irish.

Ya got me!

I wonder if this is an industry sponsored project. I would note that on the list of top ten Bourbons, a whopping 4 are Beam products, including Booker's rated as number one (Stagg comes in at 6, just below Knob Creek Single Barrel).

You mean a blog can be a cover? I'm aghast.

Well, if it was paid for by a company and that wasn't disclosed, it would violate FTC regulations, so that's probably unlikely. Maybe it's just a dude who really loves Beam products.

I think we've been tricked by Josh. It's actually his site and he just tricked all of into checking it out :slappin:

He who smelt it, dealt it

On the positive side, I'm always glad when people want to write about anything, and even more so when they want to write about American whiskey. The question is whether or not they have anything to say.

Still no sign of Bourbon Critic.

She or he is not a bad writer. I just wish whoever it is would drop the anonymous act and step forward into the light.

Depends on how you define good writing. All I see is a bunch of subjective points with no worthwhile information being posted.

For instance:

What separates it from the pack is that, if you pay attention, there’s also something thrilling lurking in there that’s hard to put into words. That spark of excitement you taste reminds you of the very first time you ever felt boobies — or got your boobies felt, depending on whether or not you have boobies.

There is nothing of value in that paragraph and sadly it seems to be a trend in his writing.

On a positive point, I really like the design of the site. Just not the content.

These things compel attention like a car wreck, most folks just have to look.

I said BC was "not a bad writer" not "a good writer". I see some potential there. I find her/his wacky metaphors/similies somewhat amusing. No, they often don't work, but I think that with some time BC could get better. At least he posted a negative review. Those are a rariety in the whiskey blogosphere. That's something.
