Bourbon in the morning

So I don't exactly make it a habit to drink early, but ever so often I will have a pour before noon.

I've noticed that everything taste so delicious! It's like night and day sometimes.

Has anyone else ever noticed this? I will have the same pour much later that evening and it will often fall flat. But in the morning, almost anything I have sings.

Got me to thinking, if there was a actual reason behind it. Palate fatigue?

side note: Pappy 15 has never ever tasted better then in the morning. It takes my breathe away.

I agree, I'll ocasionally have a taste on Sunday morning after breakfast and a few or four cups of coffee.

It does seem to taste great.

As a matter of fact from now on when I get something new in I am going to make a point of getting to know it in the early morning.

with my wife I am limited to the amount of times I can do this without raising an eyebrow..

perhaps I will simply starve to preserve my palate?

I get up around 3 AM every day (not my job, just old habit) and I've been known to have a taste around 9 AM. It's re-assuring to know that I may be a 'professional' taster :slappin:

I taste wine for a living, and yes, your palate is always best between breakfast and lunch.

As for AM Whiskey, I tend to prefer the spicy, high-tones of Rye for breakfast, Rye-recipe Bourbon is for lunch, and Wheaters are for dinner, IMHO.:cool:

My wife works on Sundays. If I'm not doing anything too serious, I'll have a nice pour in the early AM. It really does taste better then.

Ah.. the pour between vespers and Fajr --- a ecumenical reference (pause while Google searches are done --- I should get paid for this.)

I see nothing wrong with this! Truth be told, I hope there is, well, at least a little wrong with this, so I can defiantly do it any way.

I do this. When noone's home I'll sometimes have a glass in the morning, and it is delicious. Also, bourbon is great in coffee. Man, is it great in coffee.

One of my favorite movie whiskey moments is when Tom Horn (played by Steve McQueen) tells someone "I'm going into to town and have a mornin' whiskey." That sounded like the most wholesome, delcious way of life. Even as a kid when I first saw that movie it made me thirsty for whiskey and I'd never even tasted it.

Damn! I thought I was the only one.

I don't normally drink in the AM but yes, whiskey tastes fuller and brighter in the morning before eating anything. Also, similar whiskeys are easier to distinguish. That part, I had especially attributed to nighttime palette fatigue verses the freshness of early morning tasting.

Usually on weekend mornings, more often after they retired, my late parents enjoyed a shot or two of Old Fitzgerald on a half grapefruit, which my mom had nicely sectioned, removing that membrane thing in the process. My brother-in-law picked up this habit. Though I love fresh grapefruit and bourbon, I've never cared for the pairing. Anyone else out there tried this? -c

I've done it with dark rum and gold tequila, but never bourbon. Might give it a shot (pun intended) this weekend with a Ruby Red grapefruit.

Tried it and it's surprisingly good! The sweetness of the Ruby Red was nice with the slight sweetness in the Costco bourbon.

Good Morning Gentelmen.

Here we are on an early Sunday morning and it's no better time to try a pour of your favorite bourbon or new one to get a freash clean taste.

As stated by others here this is a good time for tasting with a fresh palate and no palate fatique.

I'm going with W L Weller Centennial.

Not only the palate is freash but so is the nose.

This Centennial smells of fruit, an apple/cherry combination with some sweet coating from carmel corn.

The entry taste is the same and very much alive and vibrant, with a brown sugar sweetness that I think comes from the oak.

The finish melts into a vanilla and nutty combination.

That was a small pour and I think I will have one more small one, after all it's only 9:30am.
