bourbonNOOG
Ran across this last weekend. I passed because it's a little above my price range, but there might be some whom are interested. It contained 5 experimental bottles in a wooden box with a large buffalo statue. Interesting, but again, pricey. Seeing as a lot of this stuff runs for $60-$80 for the small bottle, I guess the $309 doesn't seem as bad if you were someone who wanted 5 experimental bottles. Just thought I'd share. They had 2 sets on the shelf.
cowdery
I wonder if it's something the store put together. Seems like an odd thing for BT to do.
Lost Pollito
That's gotta be store made. The OC bottles shipped 12 to a case in cardboard boxes. The case breakdown was 2-1989 / 4-1991 / 6-1993. That does look like a nice way to split them up though.
Josh
Plus you get your own smaller version of Bubbles, the BT Bison. What's not to love?
bourbonNOOG
I really don't think this is the stores doing. I stop by this place often and they've never done anything like this. When I called to check on VW items that week, the owner said "no we didn't get in any Van Winkle but I did get a couple of the BT 2011 experimental packs."They've had a double barreled BT Experimental (don't know which one or year that is) on the shelf for a while.I just thought this was an interesting presentation, hence the pic. Never seen this anywhere else. But, like i said this guy doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would go to the trouble of doing this himself. Virus_Of_Life
It looks like 6 bottles to me, and actually not too bad of a price given what you're getting. And it makes sense as they say 1, 2 and 3 bottles of each because like Joe said it shipped as 2, 4 and 6 so they basically just broke that in half to create the two sets you referred to. White Dog
The shrink wrap may be store-made, but the 6-bottle mixed case is not. BT is shipping mixed cases out to stores this month. One retailer in Milwaukee just received a case with 4 bottles of 1991, and 2 bottles of 1989.And unless the retailer jacks the price, it outta be $60 to $70 retail.I was told that these are some "found" barrels that BT decided to release. OscarV
Plus you get your own smaller version of Bubbles, the BT Bison. What's not to love? Bubbles is the name of the Lion that is used by the Detroit Lions. C'mon Josh don't disrespect the D. Let BT get their own name. He's called Bubbles because he looks like he's taking a swipe at floating bubbles in air, he's really not a ferocious lion at all that's why he's their symbol. Not the basketball team, which is surprisingly good for something from Oklahoma, but the name itself.I still like Hoofy.
flintlock
I can't believe those top two bottles wouldn't break with any kind of regular shipping treatment. It's too professionally done to be done by the store, and it isn't practical enough to have come from the distillery. Could the distributor have assembled this locally? CorvallisCracker
The best name ever for one of these critters was back in 1976, when the Denver zoo renamed one of theirs Bison Tennial.
White Dog
Just tried the 1989, which is listed as a 21yr @ 90 proof. Sweet and inviting nose, but the finish was quite woody, spicy, and very hot. A few drops of water brought out some caramel, but it was still unbalanced. The retailer who gave me a taste told me he liked the 1991 more, but it wasn't on hand when we tasted.Could've had one for $50, but I passed. Interesting Bourbon, however. Didn't hate it, just didn't love it.
