I stopped in at my local binny's with a friend to pick up the KCSB. Anyways, they had the Makers mark 46 available for tasting. I'm not much a fan of regular MM- its bland and doesn't really do much for me. But I tried this and was really blown away by the amoung of flavor and spice the oak staves added to it.

While I don't think it's really worthy of the $35 price range, it would be a great competitor with WT/BT/Weller in the 25$ price range.

I also tried the EWSB 2001 and did not think much of it (although the 2000 was very good).

I have never been a MM fan but the 46 is not bad... as you suggest the price point takes it out of my rotation... If it was $25 it would be there..

I can take or leave the regular MM... usually leave. I bought a bottle of 46 the other day and I really like it. This might sound crazy, but I swear I detect a little Macallan 12 in there. I will definitely buy this again. It might be a bit high priced, but the regular MM is over priced for what it is, IMO. I like the 46 MUCH better than the regular MM offering.

I wonder if part of the reason they priced it so far off from the regular MM is just to make sure it doesn't eat up the sales of their regular MM- its priced right at around 25$, so I wonder if they just wanted to price it far away from their regular product.

I would think that adding the oak staves to a barrel that will yield around 200 bottles wouldn't require a 10$ increase per bottle.

I've tried MM 46 a number of times since the initial hype of the roll-out. My reaction is still the same: interestingly but there are better alternatives for the price.

Now, a 10 yo MM (at barrel-proof, thank you) would be something else....

I don't drink a lot of MM (occasional pour)but I always have some for guests that like it (come on down, Dale). I keep 46 for the same reason, only I drink a lot more of that.

I'm seeing it in bars, including bars that have a limited bourbon selection, in which case it's a nice choice to have. Of course, Chicago is weird because Beam is based here. Every bar in town, it seems, has Baker's for example.

The general consensus on SB seems to be that while MM is boring, people seem to love 46. I would submit that 46 is okay, but it shows so well simply because MM is so damn dull.

I enjoy MM 46's smell which I find superb more than its taste. On my tongue everything is good until the end when the spicy red hot cinnamon candy taste kicks in and lingers. I just never cared much for that taste even as a kid with candy or now in my whiskey. Still my bottle was emptied pretty quickly and I'm sure there is another in my future.

I'd agree with this. I honestly do like the 46, though.

I bought this when it was first out. Since then it has jumped 3.00 a 750 in price. It is good but I probably won't get another bottle. Everyone that tried some from my bottle liked it. My bottle is down to less than half as a result!

I haven't bought MM since I started lurking here 3 months ago.

I did buy the 46, b/c some here like it.

Man, I hate it. I now know either I got a bad bottle, or I just really disagree. My bottle tastes like butterscotch schnapps. Something I would serve to a drunk sorority girl with bad intent. I no longer have such bad intent, so I find it useless.

My guess is that this bottling is really variable. Because I cannot see what y'all like about this. Too sweet.
