StraightNoChaser
I had the opportunity to try Blanton's Barrel Proof and Blanton's Gold while in Kentucky last month and I was utterly blown away. I've never been a fan of the US Blanton's, for whatever reason it just doesn't sit well on my tongue, but the Japanese bottlings were fantastic.I'm reading on another site that Blanton's Barrel Proof is no longer available. Can anyone give me a recommendation about which bottlings are still available in Japan? I have a friend rolling through a Japanese airport this summer and going to have him try to find a bottle or two for me.
silverfish
According the the Spring 2011 edition of The Bourbon Review, the Japanese Edition is a 93 proof (46.5 %), minimum 8 years old. Beige label.
cowdery
The Blanton's web site just says the barrel proof, and two other line extensions, are available in international distribution and travel retail (duty free) but it doesn't say where. The barrel proof is a great idea. Wish they sold it here.
StraightNoChaser
I DEFINITELY want the barrel proof if my buddy can find it. That stuff was absolutely amazing.
humchan2k
what kills me is that I lived in Japan for 4 years, but that was before I REALLY got into bourbon, so I didn't realize just how much great stuff was always around me.....For Blanton's, I'll see what I can find while I am there, see what I can bring back. I am very much planning on breaking the import limit and paying duty on some bottles...I don't care, it's so cheap, my goal is to bring back 6 bottles of weird stuff...Maker's Mark BLACK is definitely on the list, and so is the barrel proof, now that you mentioned it! Pirate762
I have been fortunate enough to have tried the Gold and the Straight from the Barrel. The Gold is good, really good. The Straight from the Barrel, well it is on par with the best barrel proof bourbons available. It just amazes me that t is sold only overseas and in duty free. sailor22
I have tried several straight from the barrel Blanton's. One was really special the other two were OK. Any single barrel offering regardless of proof will have a certain amount of variation. Rather than choosing a Blanton's because of proof perhaps using color as a reflection of age will be more useful.
WsmataU
I'm not sure about Japan, but you can definitely find the Gold, "Super Gold," and Barrel Proofs in the Carribean. Generally for under $50.

I expect you can buy them somewhere overthere. And if you like to order you can use Rakuten.com . Workes just fine only is expensive and takes some time to fill out all those forms.
