LikeItWasSodaPop
Finally found me some SW Old Fitz today ... There are like 5 guys behind the counter. "Why you care about zees?" Panic. Do not want them to change the price. One guy is checking the basement. And finding more! "My grandfather made this ... "I explain BIB and DSP 16. My grandfather worked there. That is why I want it. Of course this is total bullshit. The drunk crazies are into it, though. The Old Fitz bottles start collecting on the counter. More and more (200 and 375 ml) come up from the basement. Bros are checking ... "You eediot, he said DSP 16 not DSP 1 ..." "Sheeit," one says, "your granddad made that shit?""Damn straight," I say. Oh well. No regrets. And of course it is good. AaronWF
Love it. Thanks for the strat hint! I've barely gotten a liquor store guy/gal to look in a dusty corner shelf let alone go down to the basement...
mosugoji64
Great story! So far, I've only managed to get blank stares and confused looks when I try to talk to the counter people. Guess I need some tips!
cowdery
Great story! So far, I've only managed to get blank stares and confused looks when I try to talk to the counter people. Guess I need some tips! The key is finding something on the shelf and asking for more, which usually gets them to look in the basement. Just starting a conversation on the subject of dusties is usually a waste of time. You have to be able to hold something from their stock up in front of them and say "more like this?" jcg9779
Very nice. I've gone with the story of "it's my dad's birthday and he used to drink this stuff and I want to buy more for him" in the past. It hasn't gotten me anything special, but it does get a conversation started.
