AaronWF
I was never too hot on EC 18 either, until I had one of Binny's selections. Wow, that was great whiskey. For those who haven't had good luck with EC 18, try to find a retailer bottling. You won't be disappointed.Glad to hear it. I just walked out of Binny's with one of these barreled in May '92. I'll post my thoughts in here when I get a chance to taste.

Just let me know what barrel number you picked up.

moose
I know the EC12 has a bit of a mixed reception here, but I for one, have grown to like it. I initially didn't care for it too much, but I will say it has gotten better for me over time. A good value at $25, and I'll definitely reach for it again. OscarV
You have to experiment with EC12, add some water, let it breath. It is dense and Parker does not intend any of his bourbons to be consumed neat.
StraightNoChaser
EC 12 is the only bottle of bourbon that I could not drink. It was nasty straight, on the rocks, or with ginger ale. I poured the bottle down the drain so the sewer rats could get a buzz on.It may have been a bad bottle but I have never bought it again and I don't intend to. ebo
This is alcohol abuse if I've ever heard it. I'd rather give the bottle to a friend with a palate lesser than mine. At least I know it will be enjoyed one way or another then.Lesser than? How about "different than"?
dmarkle
IMO you can't go wrong with EC 12. It's a very solid whiskey, for a very agreeable price. I really didn't care for the last two EC18's I've had. Too much eucalyptus in the flavor profile, and it almost tasted "musty". IMO EC18 is the posterchild for the concept of, "you can age a bourbon too long". But I found a great use for it. Blending a small amount of it with Eagle Rare makes for a great drink indeed. Much more than the sum of its parts. I encourage everyone to try it.
G.H.Adams
It would have been hard to give to a friend. Most of my friends only drink beer. Besides I felt the sewer rats needed to have a good time.:slappin:
BigRich
I'll throw a nod to the pro EC camp. I don't always have a bottle at home but it rotates through from time to time. I'll never turn a drink of this down if offered.
HP12
People may say that it's "high rye" in profile, but it is definitely not "high rye" in mashbill. It's the standard HH rye-recipe mashbill, which is high corn/low rye. 75%Corn and 13%Rye according to Josh's Whiskey Tree. BTW, why isn't Josh's Whiskey Tree a sticky?????:skep: :skep:Thank you for the insights. I'll likely be giving the 12 and/or 18 a try soon. What is and where can I find Josh's Whiskey Tree? I'll be sure to look you up next time I'm in!I'm still wrapping my head around the EC18. It has a very different profile from my usual pours; I think I prefer my bourbon on the dry side, and this may be the least dry whiskey I've ever had. Lots of sweet and chewy body to it. I think I'm missing some smoke. If you like savory-sweet dishes like Moroccan tagines with dates and/or raisins, I think this bourbon will speak to you. That's not my kind of thing, but it's definitely unique.
