Am I the only one who thinks that the new Wild Turkey packaging blows? And what's with the "Give Them the Bird" ad campaign??:banghead:

Don't know who the geniuses are that came up with this crap, but I sure hope they get booted soon.

the give them the bird ad campaign is idiotic.

however, i like the new labels. i'd like them better if they also said either "8 years old" or "12 years old" but that's just me. "10 years old" is a good compromise, yes?:slappin:

I agree, it's real lame.

Are they going after the idiot crowd?

Sadly, the "idiot crowd" is a pretty large demographic...

Just started stocking the new bottles and honestly, I feel it should be accompanied by a price drop and shelf height drop. The new label just looks like a cheap crack at attracting the youth market. The label was just fine before, should have been left alone.

I have mixed feelings on the new label I like the old label but the paragraph on the back of the new label is kind of cool. As for the ad campaign it was cute once but for the long haul it blows.

Unfortunately, attracting the youth is what marketing is all about.

I like the old label much better. I do like the fact that the WT81 is now the same age as the 101!

I don't get its appeal, but then again I don't think WT is interested in marketing to me. If they were then we would see 8 and 12 year old offerings on the shelf. When you put out a mediocre product at a premium price you've got to find a way for someone to buy it. I guess a nontraditional label and a cheesy ad campaign is what brings the sheep to slaughter these days.

I'm with you, Thomas. The new label stinks and should have been left alone. And the ad campaign is even worse. Sad that the "brains" behind this stuff couldn't come up with something better.

I haven't seen the new label or the WT81 in Atlanta. I guess we're behind the times.

I haven't seen the new label or the WT81 in Georgia. I guess we're just behind the times.

No, it's not Georgia per se...it's Empire Distributors that are behind the times.

When you do see it only admit to buying one.

I bought two and a bunch of SB.com'ers were all over me for making such a stupid purchase, in their humble opinion.

I still have not seen the new labels or the 81 in my part of New Mexico. Since I like Wild Turkey I will try the 81 when I see it. As for the labels I could care less if the juice is good.

I picked up a new label 101 just to have but have not seen the 81, yet. I will probably pick one of the 81's up as well since I thoroughly enjoy WT.

I don't care what the label looks like or what hack ass ad campaign that they are pushing....as long as the bourbon is tasty, I'll drink up.

They're so busy with new, bad packaging, they also forgot to put WT81 on the website. They still show the WT80.

Are you guys listening? Is it that hard to update your website?

Actually it's not suppose to hit the store shelves until August.

I got my two WT 81's from the local WT Rep via a retailer friend.

It's showing up all over here in ETX, I can really tell which stores sell WT faster.

No 81 in Atlanta but the new labels are showing up.

I picked up a bottle of WT81 in Roswell today, Tucker.

I don't mind the new packaging. It's appropriate and not a radical departure.

The "Give 'em the bird" campaign is another matter.

They're already in litigation with Beam Global because Beam has used "give 'em the bird" in promotions for Old Crow.

The phrase is one thing but encouraging use of the gesture is another. Most U.S. broadcast stations and many on cable won't show it. Australia is their second-biggest market. Maybe it will fly (pardon the expression) down there.

I suspect the campaign is intended to be viral and never intended for mainstream media.

Still, I think encouraging people to use the gesture as a way to order Wild Turkey is a bit dangerous. Around here it's close to using the n-word in an advertisement. Among friends the gesture can be harmless, but among strangers it can get you punched, cut, or shot pretty readily. I doubt Campari is prepared for all the wrong death suits.

It may also be delusional, if they think people will actually do it. Most people aren't that stupid.

I hope.

And, yes, Wild Turkey 81 is out and, for a 40.5% ABV spirit, not bad at all.

I've heard about cases where some people are actually filing suit against others for flipping them off. What is the world coming to?

Edit: Wait, I just ggogled it and discovered that flipping the bird is protected by the First Amendment. But I guess some people are still trying to sue over it.

In fact, I like it.

I like it a lot.

So go ahead and pile on SB.com'ers.
