Photodudems
I just got back from the store with a fifth of EW BIB. I just wanted out of there fast, as I had just come from the 'devil's stronghold' - Walmart and really wanted to get home. From doing a little more reading, it looks like the difference in the EW's that I mentioned is proof. The green is 80, black 86(I think- maybe 90) and the BIB is 100. Not sure if the recipe is different. On another note though, while I was in there, I came across two minis of George Dickel that were on closeout for <$1 ea. The photo came off the web. Like I said, I have a mini. The first one is labeled "George Dickel Original Tennessee Finest Quality Sippin' Whisky - Superior No.12 Brand - Distilled and Charcoal mellowed at Cascade Hollow...' etc. on a cream colored label. This image has a red label, but all the type is the same. I'm thinking they just changed the label. The other says 'George Dickel Tennessee - Sour Mash Whisky - Old Fashioned Cascade Hollow Batch Recipe - Distilled and Mellowed at Geo. A. Dickel & Co...' etc. on a black label with white, gold, and red lettering. On the right side, there is a vertical line stating 'Aged 3 Years'. I know they're not technically bourbons, but I've heard the name Dickel on here and thought for <$2 I could risk a couple of minis. Thoughts or opinions on these? Unique and one of my favorties.
Brisko
Likewise. I'm quite fond of Dickel #12, and it is inexpensive.
sutton
I believe the Dickel No. 12 is aged longer and/or has some older whisky in the blend - I think the Cascade Hollow is younger. And I agree with Brisko and hambone - Dickel 12 is a great value and to me anyway, was a learning experience seeing what a high corn % in the mashbill tastes like. Around here it's about $18/750ml, so a no-brainer.
StraightBoston
+1 on the Dickel 12 (on my original list above.) The Cascade Hollow is the same recipe at 3 years old and is excellent for degreasing tools.(For reasons I don't understand, the Dickel No. 8 black label is back on the shelves in Massachusetts, a couple bucks higher than the No. 12??!!) ebo
Dickel 12 is one of the best values in whisk(e)y. I would find it very hard to name a whisk(ey) that is of better quality at the same price. There may be a few, but I don't know what they are.
G.H.Adams
I have to agree that Dickel 12 is a very good value value whiskey that I like a lot.As for the price difference of Dickel #8 if I am not mistaken Dickel #8 is their best seller. I tend to like #12 better myself.
Tennessee Dave
4 Roses Yellow label would be my pick in that price range.
MacinJosh
Buffalo Trace for $17.99 or Very Old Barton for $9.99 here. For what you get.....hard to beat either one. My $0.02JoshSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Photodudems
Thanks for the feedback guys! I tried the Cascade Hollow, and really didn't like it. It was too sharp and acidic to me. Haven't tried the other yet, but will soon.

VT Mike
+1 on the Dickel 12 (on my original list above.) The Cascade Hollow is the same recipe at 3 years old and is excellent for degreasing tools.(For reasons I don't understand, the Dickel No. 8 black label is back on the shelves in Massachusetts, a couple bucks higher than the No. 12??!!)A few years ago, when Dickel No. 8 was unavailable, I could get Dickel No. 12 for $12 a bottle up here in VT. I think it had been sitting in the state liquor warehouse forever. Now the state sells the No. 8 for $21 and the No. 12 for $24. I wish I had picked up more than one bottle of the No. 12 back then.Maybe you are seeing a similar situation - older stock of the 12 that has been on the shelf for a long time with older pricing, and newer stock of the 8 with more current pricing.
