SMOWK Posted July 21, 2011 Share Posted July 21, 2011 The Pappy 23 I recently opened is much more balanced than the PVW20 or VWFRR's that I have open. Somehow, there is less wood present. I'm still on the fence whether or not this is a good or a bad thing. I really like the wood punch of the 20 and Rye, but damn is the 23 good. Wow. Granted, I haven't been hanging out here long, but I guess I always assumed PVW=wheated, and any Old Fitz/SW=wheated. I did manage to buy a PVW23 a couple of months ago that I''m sitting on until I know better (!), what should I be looking for to know whether it is rye vs. wheat? When was bottle #1950 (which is still sealed, by the way) probably bottled?It came in a just-barely-big-enough velvet bag. I received it as a gift in about 2004.
