cowdery
So they trucked empty barrels to Louisville and filled ones back to Bardstown? That seems really inefficient, both because filled barrels weight more and take up more space on the trip south and because Bardstown is a lot closer to Lebanon (which is probably why they don't do it any more).Did they also leave some bourbon barrels in those brick warehouses with all the brandy? barturtle
Actually, there is a four year minimum. Maybe this was a mislabeling (wrong label on the back?).From the TTB regs, 27 CFR 5.42( (3) The words "bond", "bonded", "bottled in bond", "aged in bond", or phrases containing these or synonymous terms, shall not be used on any label or as part of the brand name of domestic distilled spirits unless the distilled spirits are... (iii) Stored for at least four years in wooden containers wherein the spirits have been in contact with the wood surface except for gin and vodka which must be stored for at least four years in wooden containers coated or lined with paraffin or other substance which will preclude contact of the spirits with the wood surface;

tmckenzie
Why don't you know? The angels in the corner of that warehouse only drank water.
fishnbowljoe
Gonna revive this thread 'cause........ This started showing up here at our local Schnuck's a few months ago. Until recently, I'd resisted the temptation to purchase one. Last week while grocery shopping, I decided to take the plunge because my curiosity finally got the better of me, and it was only $15.00 for a liter Well I've tasted this a few times now, and .......... I wish I had kept resisting temptation. It's made by HH, and bottled by Luxco. And yes the label still appears to be (cough cough) not quite correct. "This Whiskey Is 36 Months Old." The HH family resemblance is definitely there. It has a nutty/peanut nose to it, just like I get from JTS Brown BIB. That's about the only good I can say. It definitely has the HH citrus/eucalyptus flavor, but it comes across young and harsh. It might be fair with a mixer, or in sauces, but IMHO, this is not a "sipping" BIB. This isn't as bad as a couple of bourbon's I've used as Draino, so I'm not quite sure what I'm gonna do within it. Maybe I'll save it for when my son comes over. He normally likes to drink anything I have with Coke or Pepsi. Anyway, being forewarned is being forearmed. I wouldn't go quite so far as to say what Vosgar said about one particular bourbon, "Avoid it like the plague.", but even at $15.00 a liter, this one just ain't quite worth it. Cheers!
