OK, I wasn't going to start a new thread but upon searching there was no dedicated, appropriate thread that I could find so I don't really have a choice.

I really just am trying to get some opinions to see if I'm crazy or if anyone else has noticed this....

I have opened 2 bottles of PVW15 so far in my bourbon career/journey. Upon opening them I found the bourbon to be amazing and one of the best bourbons I've ever tasted. After several months though when I go back and have a pour I'm never as blown away as I am when I have first opened the bottle.

So has anyone noticed PVW15 being amazing in the first couple days and falling off when they went back to it some weeks later? The most valid answer may very well be that I'm insane or when I have opened both bottles I 1) had never had it before and 2) on the 2nd bottle hadn't had it in several months between bottle 1 and 2 and that could be a huge contribution.

Anyway this thread should be for all PVW15 discussion as there doesnt seem to be a dedicated thread and my inquiry is just pure curiosity of my own taste buds and possible random variance of taste(via my taste buds) vs some actual difference.

I experience the exact opposite..... ok when I open it, fantastic after a couple months....

I wasn't aware that you had any bottles that lasted a couple months!:slappin:

I am amazed that anyone has the will power to let a PVW15 sit open in their bar or cabinet for months on end. Everytime I open a bottle, it lasts at best just a few weeks.

I keep a bottle of PVW15 open for a year. I open a bottle each year at the beginning of the football season. I will finish the bottle I opened a year ago Saturday night and I will open a new bottle to enjoy following the game each Saturday.

I do the same with VWSR Lot B as the drink of choice on the Friday evening before the game. Tomorrow I will finish the bottle of VWSR from last year and open a new one for this year.

I too find that the wheaters including PVW15 gets better with time.

It's not too hard when there is a lot of other stuff open as well.

I have a bad habit of drinking too much. On the bright side, it's usually VOBBIB, RittBIB, OGDBIB, WT101, Pikesville Rye and a few others. I have found enough readily available reasonably priced whiskey to keep me away from the bunker. I might start out with a pour or two of something special, but the shelf is closer.

Because they've become so hard to find around here, I tend to stretch mine out. Besides, it looks so pretty in it's velvet draw-string bag that I hate to disturb it.

I was raised Catholic...so I usually get about 6 months out of a bottle  .

Having been raised a Catholic, I challenge that. Most Catholics I know truly enjoy their drink. All the priests certainly enjoyed their wine. As an alter boy I was always admonished to fill the wine cruet to the brim even for the 0600 mass.

I'm sure nothing has changed in the past 45 years.

It was meant as an ironic comment on those unique Catholic edicts (more so back in the 50's and 60's, when I wsa raised) which dictated sacrifice, self control and willpower or you were going to hell. No meat on Friday, no food or liquid for 3 hours before communion, kneeling throughout the mass etc. Of course the last I heard the rhythm method is still the only sanctioned method of birth control. That would require more willpower than making a Pappy 15 last 6 months. Certainly one of the best things about being raised a Catholic was/is that drinking alcohol is part of the culture. I too served Latin mass at 6.00 AM for three years about three times a week and all my priests wanted a full pour too...and at least they left me alone  .

I limit my Pappy 15 consumption to a bottle a year normally opened around my birthday. At this pace I should be good for a number of years to come. :)

I concure with other posters though in that I feel it gets better over time although I'm not sure I have ever had a pour where I didn't comment on it being some damn good bourbon!

I am pretty much in agreement with the majority here. It is great when first opened and it just gets better as it sits. I also tend to get 8 months to a year out of a bottle, largely because, same as most places, it is difficult to bunker. I did pretty good on the last release. But still, I want it to keep its allure so I only hit the 15 year once a month or so.
