Wild Turkey Freedom

Wild Turkey Freedom comes in a beautiful canister with a screw-on lid. Freedom bourbon was created as a limited release tribute to the restoration of America's native wild turkey, once in danger of extinction, the majestic wild turky has been re-introduced into it's natural wild habitat where it is free to thrive again. Exceptional barrels of 7-13 YO bourbon were selected creating a smooth full bodied taste with intense vanilla and carmel. Note: That is what it says on the canister. I am not going to open this until later. The proof on this one is a little higher than normal-106 Proof. The bottle is shaped like the Abelour A'Bunadh bottle, resembles it very closly.

I still can't fathom how I managed to get a botle of wild turkey freedom from my local off-license here in Manchester, UK, but I did. (The closest DFS Galleria being some 8000 miles away!)I paid £50. I found it to be similar to other turkeys with perhaps more finesse.Quite spicy with large amounts of caramel.Trying to find a second bottle(now I have only a dribble left)is proving somewhat harder.

Just to repeat, for clarity, WT Freedom is not available in just any duty free shop. Rather, it is exclusively distributed through the DFS Galleria company shops and there aren't many of them around the globe. In New York, for example, although international flights leave from 8 of the 9 terminals, DFS Galleria is located ONLY in Terminal 4. If you leave JFK on Delta you are out of luck; if you leave on Northwest, you win the kewpie doll.

Good luck all. My suggestion is to study the DFS Galleria website and beg the next person you know leaving from any of their locations to score a Freedom for you.

I looked at their website and DFS has a store near gate E7 in Miami. Val and I are traveling to Grand Cayman on American tomorrow via.........gate E7. Hope to see the Freedom there. Will report back if I bag one.

Yeah, buy a case and ship it to me from the Gran Cayman, I'll gladly buy half the damn lot splitting it with you! I hate WT for making certain products such as Stampede and Freedom available only to those people fortunate enough to be able to take international trips. They need to understand that they have fans who cannot afford to visit DFS but still want to try these products.

I was just thinking about this... I guess when I make my next trip someplace with one of these shops, I'm not only going to have to pick the right airport, but I think I'll have to pick the right airline as well. The way they check tickets now to let you past security, I don't know if you could get away with going to a different terminal to pick any up.

Spending a week on Grand Cayman......that accounts for at least one being consumed although I'll try to resist and drink the local products, ie Tortuga 12yo from Barbados. The Cayman's only allow one liter of spirits per person (or four liters of wine or one case of beer) when you enter. I'd buy the case if I could but will probably be lucky to get back with two bottles. If I can come up with a way to get more, I'll get some for you.

I understand the carrying restraints Randy but I do appreciate the thought. I don't see what the problem would be with WT saying after a few years of release "ok, we had this in Duty Free for X years, let's do a one time release in the US before discontinuing it". That way everyone can get a fair crack at it. Wild Turkey!

I agree 100%.....but I imagine it may be a marketing/product placement thing. The DFS Galleria shops are very upscale and getting your product there is good marketing. If it were not for things like WT Freedom, I wouldn't even enter duty free.....unless they also carry cigars from ISOM.

Flying through Houston on flight to Arruba at end of April. We almost went on flight that went through DFW, but did not realize DFW had a DFS shop...damn.

Randy - any idea what is available at the Duty Free shops in IAH?

The ones I've been in haven't had much to speak of....but there is a new terminal "E" which handles some international traffic...mostly to South America, Mexico and the Carribean ...and it has a duty free shop there. As I'm on American in terminal B, I won't be able to take a peak tomorrow. Next time I fly out of "D" or "E", I'll take a look or get Val to stop in them for me.

I'm still trying to figure out how I can get away from the store and go on a vacation flying with Northwest from JFK just to see the DFS Galleria. Anybody want to run the store for me while I go off and buy us some DFS bourbon?

Sad to report, but the bird was not in Miami's DFS shop. In fact, their bourbon selection was limited to JB and JD products.....who wants a litre of JB Black for $20. But it got better on Grand Cayman. Their duty free shops get the Blanton's export line except for the barrel proof. Each store usually carried one of the Blanton's.....all priced at $30 US duty and tax free. Didn't matter whether is was the Special Reserve, Original or Gold.....I guess to the local stocker who doesn't drink bourbon, those Blanton's bottles all look the same. Anyway, the house pour on the trip was Blanton's accompanied by a fine cigar from ISOM.

My brother leaves tomorrow for Europe to pick up his new car (Germany) and get married in Italy (isn't that trying to do too much on one trip?). Anyway, I'll have him looking for the bird and other "export" products.

Did you notice if they had Jack Daniel's 'Monogram' (leather wrapped bottle) in the Miami DFS store?

Omar.....Don't recall any "Monogram, leather wrapped" bottles. They had an "antique reproduction" bottle...no paper label, raised letters in the glass, etc, which was interesting. Is that what you're looking for? They also had bottles depicting "historic" scenes with clear plastic labeles containing each scene, sort of a see-thru-the-bottle effect. These were in the Duty Free shops before going through security.

I've since seen a picture of the "Monogram" bottling in the leather wrapped, almost flask shaped bottle. It wasn't in the Miami DFS.
