Cork Issues

I have no idea if this is in the right place but I didn't think it fit anywhere else. It relates to broken corks.

I have a bottle of Wild Turkey Tradition in the nice box with the copper base and cap. I've had one drink from the bottle before. I want to have my second this evening and pop... the cork broke off in the bottle. There is still some attached to the cap and the rest is buried in the bottle. So I will have to settle for something else tonight; no big deal. But now I'm left wondering what to do. I don't have a stock of replacement corks to use and I don't know how to get the remaining cork out.

Does anyone know of a different bottling that has the same cork size (preferably cheaper so I can drink it then reuse the cork)?

I don't want to mess up the bottle getting the cork out. I guess I could always clean an empty bottle that I have and then just transfer the Tradition to the new bottle if I could just get the cork out. There is nothing to grab on to to pull it out though. I'm sure I'm not the first to have the problem though.

I opened a Booker's not long ago and the same thing happened.

Use what's called an "Ah So" cork puller. Works great with broken corks.

Happened to me on a bottle of Hirsh recently, used a corkscrew and then replaced with another wine cork. More embarassing was that it was not my bottle, I was a guest at someone elses house and they asked me to open it. I had to swear that it was not my first bottle of bourbon I had opened.

It has happened to me on a bottle of BT White dog, and a couple of others. I was always able to remove with a corkscrew and temporarily use a Blanton's stopper I was saving to complete the horserace.

Depending on how much cork is left, you may be able to seal the bottle with the remaining cork inserted halfway until you acquire another bottle/cork.

The cap came unglued from the rubber cork. The same thing happened to me with a bottle of El Tosoro. Maker's 46's synthetic cork seems to be the best of the synthetics. many others fit so darn tight I expect them to eventual fail by coming unglued!

Push cork into bottle. Dump the contents into another bottle.

work!) Pour contents back into bottle and replace with another

Getting the cork back out is easy, I had to do this the other night in fact.

Just place the bottle in a shoe and lightly tap the heel against a hard wall until it pushes out just enough to get a hold of. Works for broken or whole corks!

I opened up a 375 of 01-99 WTRB when I got home from work today. Opened the bottle with no problems. When I decided to have another pour, the cork broke. :smiley_acbt: Go figure. I'm sure glad I keep a few spare empties on hand just in case this sort of thing happens.
