Correct LEGAL way to dispose of bourbon

I was just wondering - I have a few thousand dollars worth of bourbon, and my wife doesn't drink.

If I should suddenly (heaven forbid!) kick the bucket, what would be the proper procedure for her finding a (hopefully lucrative) home for my orphaned bottles?

I'm pretty sure my stepson would be happy to receive it as a gift, but I'd like to see my family get at least a partial return on my 'investment' / 'hobby'.

I think the only way to lawfully resell in the US would be to take them to one of the states that allows spirits auctions (such as NY) and try to get them entered in one of those auctions.

Leave your collection for your family to sell on ebay for the "collectible containers" and not for the contents. (This is not an ebay endorsement...just poking fun at how they get around the private sale of alcohol thing.)

Unless they know a little bit about bourbon, you should also include a "do not sell" list.
