Dreams coming true - Baby boy and VXOF VVOF18 plus more!!

Thanking god, this week has been a great week with two dreams coming true for me.

First, now at 20 weeks, my wife and I learned that we are having a baby boy as our first child. We are so grateful for this and extremely happy for this miracle of life. After announcing to everyone I know, I had a glass of VVOF last night to celebrate. This is after being a cold turkey for a long time now trying to lose weight. I am down 21 lbs and another 20-30lb more to go - trying to be lean and fast so I can train my little boy when he grows up in sports, martial arts, education, etc.

Secondly, I have the greatest chance encounter from a nice lady (not sure if she wants me to disclose her identity) who has a great collection from her grandfather on the greatest bourbons. I am extremely grateful that I have the honor to acquire them. It contains a list of my dream bottles! This is very much like a fated encounter presenting possibly a once in a lifetime coming of two individuals because of her grandfather appreciating great things and passing them onto our generation.

I have stated previously that I will stop bunkering but as someone who is obsessed with SW and with this being dream bottles, it was hard to say no. So she and I came to a mutual agreement; with my wife saying are you crazy (!) , but okay with my decision.

So here is the incredible line up:

VOF 8 from 1941/1949

VOF 8 from 47/55

VXOF 10 from 56/66 – dreamed bottle

VVOF 18 from 50/69 – dreamed bottle - A special barrel proof 121!

OWA 7 - 107 barrel proof with Weller and Pappy on the label - the “real†old bottle

I should have these in hand by Saturday. I am very excited about the VXOF and the VVOF18 barrel proof. When I first started out, I thought I like the more aged wheated bourbon since I really like the PVW20. Now with drinking the VOF and VVOF 10 and 12 years, they are just amazing at those aged. Therefore, I have been wondering how a VVOF18 would taste like for a long time.

I am not one that has much experience or obsession with the OWA Louisville goldvein at all, but for this OWA “real old†bottle, that appears to be the only bottle that I have seen with what Mike Veach stated “(Trivia for your consideration: the real old bottles of Weller Antique do not have two etchings of W.L. Weller but instead have Weller on one side and Pappy Van Winkle on the other side of the label.)â€

I probably pay more than I should for the OWA but less than I am willing to try it. Unless someone tell me this is the only one in the world and not to drink it, I think this will be open fairly soon, perhaps when I lose another 10 lbs.

Thanks! We are so happy about the baby. That is the greatest thing for me in my life right after marrying my wife! I can't wait for when the baby shows up with ten fingers and ten toes, and completely perfect.

Today, I finally got hold of the incredible line up. Everything looks great other than some leakage from the Cabin Still decanter. The top of the cork was broken off but the bottom part of the cork came right out in one piece. I did a quick taste of the SW juice and it's still very good! One of the VOF I had suspected had some evaporation from previous image and I confirmed it has and the top was a little moist. No big deal as I will pop that open as soon as I finish up my current VOF. Hopefully the liquid is perfect with little to no cork taint.

Third image is the most famous of Pappy's quote: "We make Fine Bourbon, at a profit if we can, at a loss if we must, but always Fine Bourbon." This was below Pappy's image on the OWA.

I think you are right! That would make more sense. Secondly, I think she said her grandfather was a big distributor so may not have the price placed on the bottles yet.

Wow, congratulations on the baby boy on the way and the huge SW find! The kid is more important than any bourbon, but that bourbon comes closer than most. Enjoy fatherhood and the fine bourbon!
