I'm saddened by the fact that all 3 of the big 3 beer makers- miller, budweiser, and coors, are now all foreign (sam adams is the largest beer producer). Can someone tell me which of the international bourbon/spirit companies are american?

I know Pernod ricard/Wild turkey is foreign. I was wondering about Diageo and sazerac and the rest. Does anyone know?

I'll take a stab at it:

Heaven Hill - American

Buffalo Trace/Barton/ - Sazerac (American)

Brown-Forman - American

Jim Beam/Maker's Mark - Beam Inc. (American owned I think...)

Four Roses - Kirin (Japanese)

Wild Turkey - Campari (European)

Diageo is definitely foreign owned, I believe European.

Heaven Hill and Sazerac are privately-owned by American families. Beam and Brown-Forman are publically-traded ---- so it is impossible to define their ownership by nationality.

Who specifically is behind Sazerac? Does anyone know? Obviously the Shapiras own Heaven Hill, but I never hear anything about the actual ownership of Sazerac.:skep:

If you're voting with your dollars, I don't see that as a negative thing: Miller, Bud and Coors are all mostly terrible. Support your local micro or craft and enjoy the markedly better taste.

Still independent, Goldring family-owned and headed by William Goldring.

My understanding (from Chuck's postings) is that Sazerac is 100% owned by Wm. Goldring.F amily members are also (under a separate corporate umbrella) involved in the wholesaling / distributing end of the business.

Re Sazerac, Goldring controls Sazerac but I believe other family members have interests. I just know that the only person Sazerac President Mark Brown has to answer to is Bill Goldring.

Since the company is private, that's all we know.

A separate branch of the same family owns Republic National Distributing Company.

Although Brown-Forman is publically owned it is controlled by the Brown family and headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky.

Beam Inc. is headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois.

Diageo is based in London. Pernod is based in Paris. Campari is based in Rome. Kirin is based in Tokyo. Diageo, Pernod and Campari are public. I'm not sure about Kirin.

MGPI, the new owner of the distillery portion of Lawrenceburg Distillers Indiana, is based is Atchison, Kansas.
