theDon
They need to do more non-drink related item gift sets. I would pay more for a bottle of Wild Turkey with a commemorative knife, T-shirt or possibly mouse pad. Maybe even something for my kid like a 4 Roses Barbie. Isoflex
Maker's Mark 750ml with 2 rocks glasses for $19.95. The glasses retail on the MM website for $8 a piece not counting shipping. A bottle of MM for $4 ain't bad at all.
Moretorque05
I had to restock my basics so I ended up getting the Makers, Woodford, and Wild Turkey gift sets since they run the same prices as the bottle. The Woodford set came with a very heavy bottle topper and the Makers glasses are very cool.
cowdery
It has long been the case in the booze business that gift sets won't fly with retailers unless they are priced the same or very close to the regular retail price for that product, so that's a good thing for consumers. Retailers generally won't buy the gift set if there's an up-charge. Like Moretorque05, I'll grab a gift set even if it's just for me since the gift, whatever it is, is essentially free. And, after Christmas, they mark down the leftovers. kbrighton
If you want to score the freebies, just talk to someone on the wholesale side of the store if they have one. I worked at a liquor retail store with a wholesale end during college, and in the 3 years there I brought home more free junk than I had space for. Bars don't want the stuff and it just took up space in my delivery van. We had an entire room full of stuff that came out of gift packs during the holidays. I have dozens of glass sets with booze logos, muddlers, shakers, flasks, books, shirts, hats, and bar mats.
stevegoz
I love the post-Christmas breakdown of the gift sets -- I have an entire case full of regulation-weight Cutty Sark poker chips that I picked up for a dime a sleeve at a Dominick's supermarket a few Januarys back. Completed my MM ornament collection that way, too.

cowdery
When I worked at a sales promotion agency, we would periodically have an auction to reduce the sample inventory. We used the proceeds to have a party.
pepcycle
I just bought two identical WT gift sets. Last night, The Patty and I were discussing my expenditures on beverage. During the ensuing discussion, she suggested "I get a pair"
