Has anyone tried these (particularly anyone who has tried more than one)? How do they stack up against the sazerac 18?

If I recall correctly....I'd pass on the Rittenhouse 25. I can dig up my tasting notes if you'd like more details.

The 23 year is fantastic, of they are single barrels so depending on the barrel YMMV. I have not tasted the 25 year yet. The 21s I tasted were also very good.

IMHO the 23 is very under rated and doesn't get enough credit.

I have seen both the 23 year and 25 year recently. They are very scarce here in Michigan. I am debating on whether to bite the bullet and just try one. The price point has me a little reluctant to pull the trigger. Are either better than the Ritt BIB?

I'd be curious to hear impressions on all three as I have a bottle of 23 year and have access to the 21 and 25 locally for fair prices

I'd be curious to hear what your think are "fair prices"?

Paid $119 for the 23 and have access to the 21 for $110 ish and the 25 for around $130.

Those are are very fair prices, I'd snag them in a heartbeat if I saw those.

They are all very good, but may favorite of the three is the 23.

Those are great prices, I'd buy for that, they are about $50 higher in my part.

More like $70 from what I've seen, kept me from pulling the trigger...so far.

I've got a bottle of the 21 year. To me it proves that older is not always better. Not the holy grail of rye I would expect for that price. A very tasty and interesting whskey but I could find 2 bottles of something I like for the price

Two things:

A. Had the 21 y/o a while back, good, but not $200+ good imo

B. Shouldn't this be in the rye forum?

Ok, what you you go for then: 2 bottles of VWFRR or 1 Ritt 23yr?

I'd go two VWFRR all day long over 1 ritt 23, only problem is that the VWFRR is near impossible to get.

I'd assume that the majority on SB would do the same. My purchases tend to be governed by availability. Even if I felt that Ritt 23 was slightly better (which I don't), I'd still grab the VWFRR because it's amazing and near impossible to find, whereas there are quite a few bottles of the Ritt 21+ floating around.

Oh! that's a good question to ponder. I've never had the Ritt 23 but I have had VWFRR and it is superb.

I have, and will continue, to do just that. Based on the pricing I've seen, it's actually more like 3 VWFRR to a Ritt 23... Two Vintage 21s, or 2-3 Saz 18's would be a far better haul than a Single older Ritt.

I like the Older Ritts - they are good whiskey, but they don't justify their prices IMHO. I'm not saying the are bad - or even "weak" by any stretch, but the other older ryes do more for me than all the older Ritts, even were price not that big of an issue.

As noted, YMMV.

I passed up a place last week with 5 or 6 Ritt 23's. Keep passing up this stuff. I may regret it one of these days but just doesn't strike a chord with me.

as someone noted above, availability is the problem. it was easier to get the ritt 21 or 23 than it is/was to get the vwfrr, vintage 21 or saz18.

Actually I'd go for a mont blanc pen and a $50 bill. All I need is a nice watch and my bourbon pic will be set to go :slappin:

It would be terrific to have a rye forum.
